    Default Electronic cruise control install

I am attempting to install a cruise control on my Ryker. I am tapping into the throttle wires. Below see a schematic of my wiring. This is a roster 250-1882. I am using magnets for vss. Everything seems to work fine until I plug the yellow wire from cruise control (ecu circuit 2,) to the bikes throttle sensor 2 + (yellow/red wire).
It throws the bike into limp home mode.
Any ideas what I am doing incorrectly?

The yellow/red wire is power to hall sensor 2. You need to cut and splice into the signal wires green/black (sensor 1 signal) and green yellow (sensor 2 signal) I would think.

I am very interested in your progress.

I have an update on my Rostra cruise control in my Ryker rally. Thanks dickp, For your input. you are absolutely correct. I now have the unit working properly. The instructions do not explain very well at all. As soon as I get the wires tied up and my bike back together I will repost with photos and instructions and placement of the control. This is the rostra 250-1882 for electronic drive by wire cruise for hot rods and part #250-3742 pickup coil and magnets on the drive shaft. I am so excited to test it once it is together. Stay tuned.

Thanks Rykerrally for the update. I agree, the instructions are not very comprehensive. I am very interested in installing one myself. Curious to me that Rostra uses magnetic pickup on the driveshaft and not a VSS signal. I would like to see how you did that.

I installed a traditional Rostra on my Suzuki Boulevard. I did not use the Rostra controls - a simple SPDT switch is all that's needed. I did not use an on/off switch; just tapped the brakes to disengage.

Dickb, Rostra does have units that wire to the vss, but what is nice about this unit is it can be adapted to any wiring setup and the drive shaft is do accessible on the Ruler. It is very accurate. Photos and my install instructions coming soon.

I probably won't be riding it for a couple weeks, I will be away from home, but when I get back I will try to do a video or photos of of installing using it. And using it..

by the way dickb, how does the cruise you installed on your Suzuki work. Like like a nice clean install of the switch.

Quite well. It has several DIP switches to configure number of VSS pulses and throttle response that took some experimentation, as Rostra has no instructions for motorcycles. It does drop a few mph up hills and gains downhill. I suspect this could be improved by further experimentation with the switches. As there are no switches on yours, I'm guessing that the unit "learns" and adjusts itself?

There was an emergency flasher switch in that position, but as I never used it, it was the perfect location for the cruise switch - just move your thumb.

Hi everyone, I have finished installing and test driving my Ryker Rally with the Rostra Electronic (drive by wire) cruise control. It is absolutely flawless. One push of the button increase or decrease it does it 1 mile an hour. Brake cancels it out just like in an automobile. I used the Rostra 250-1882, with the magnetic sensor and the control # 250-3472. This unit is used on specially built hot rods that have an open or visible drive shaft. No fooling with the vss wire on the bike. I bought my unit from The control store on line. they are awesome, and has a technician that really knows the unit, just don't say it is going on a bike, act like it is a hot rod. His name is Michael. So I have posted some photos of the install thanks to my man doing all the electrical. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me. Good luck. So much better than the throttle lock.

Which pedal interface did you choose during checkout of the universal kit?

There is no pedal interface for a motorcycle, as of course there is no accelerator pedal. You cut the two throttle sensor wires and wire directly per the Rostra instructions.

Thanks for the update! Did you need to use a relay on the brake light connection?

Looks like just a hole tapped in the hand guard for mounting the control. Pretty slick!

SKiZo, yes that is all. It has a rotating sleeve so you can angle it any direction you need. I put some shrink wrap on it for water protection, not shown in photo.

Dickb, no I did not. I originally installed one, but it kept clicking like something kept setting it off even with ignition off. I removed it and test rode it. It works just fine without the relay. I have the sling mods tour bags on it. It works great.

I added a Rostra control on a 2001 Ford ZX2 Escort. For such a small straight shift engine, it worked perfectly. I just used a couple tiny momentary switches mounted to the steering wheel and connected through some relays with the included but not connected wiring in the steering column. Was pretty surprising how well the inexpensive (but not cheap) system worked.

My two biggest wishlist items for a new model Ryker would be cruise control and power steering. Ryker 900 Limited anyone?

Rykerrally, thanks for trailblazing this. I followed your lead, but did not use a supplied control. I used pushbutton switches on the switch pod for convenience and a factory look. The wires were snaked through the existing conduit, and a connector added to make assembly and any necessary disassembly easier.
