Default Securing Handicap Placard on Spyder

Anyone have a good solution for securing a handicap placard on the bike so it does not get stolen

Not sure that a placard would be safe. I would suggest checking with your DMV for the appropriate license plate.

    Not stolen is the problem.

I put my hang tag in a large folded plastic bag. I use a couple clothespins to attach it to the windshield. In the twenty plus years I have had one, none have been stolen. That included parking downtown in Anchorage AK every weekday for over 10 years.

Some states have HC license plates for motorcycles. AR is one of them. I have one on one of the F3L's. A second one costs an extra $100 or so. I use my hang tag on the other.

..... You could put it horizontally across the bottom of the windshield on the inside, then cover it with a flexible piece of plastic with pop rivets. This would make it too difficult and time consuming to remove it. But it won't be attractive ..... good luck .... Mike

Agree, I just told the tag office that I wanted a handicap tag and that was it. I had previously gotten one for my car so no other items were needed.

I copied my hang tag to 50% and laminated it in clear plastic.
Fixed it the the lower right inside of the windshield with velcro.
    No issues in 3 yrs.

Utah also has HC plates for motorcycles. When I first broke my ankle last year my doctor gave me a temporary tag. I punched a hole thru it with a hole punch and wired it to the cup holder on the Spyder. Could it have been taken, with some work yes, but a lot more the just a quick grab. If they had I would have just told the DMV and gotten another one. If you have a permanent need for one, I suggest you see if your state issues HC license plates for motorcycles.

I make a hard, clear plastic sleeve that's longer than the placard and drilled a hole near the top. A gun lock secures it to the bike. Now that I added Lid Locks, I made a short steel cable with a loop at each end and lock the loops in the Lid Locks.

I will take pics of each - the gun lock and the cable. I'll post tomorrow.

Up here in British Columbia, Canada, rather than use the hanging placard we can get a sticker (similar to a licence plate decal) to attach on the windshield (not on the licence plate), that is good for the year. Have to get it annually.

I also use the lid locks. Hard plastic cover, metal plate riveted to the top and hole drilled. Have to redo it every 2 years.

If you are eligible for a handicap placard, you should have no trouble getting a handicap plate. Here in CA I have a placard an applied for the plate through AAA and it arrived fairly quickly.

I found this information on their web site.
Disability plates and placards are issued to qualified Massachusetts residents who meet the eligibility requirements. Disability Motorcycle Plate Fee (annual) $20 each

Default A Solution to my Question

Found a solution in Dollar General store, newly open in our area. A kids pencil pouch. Will use a braided wire with lock on it to give it the appearance of security.

Plates are the only way to go. Anything loose will eventually be stolen. I had my first tag stolen in Yuma AZ. I have H/C plates on all my vehicles including my motorhome. No extra charge other than the initial plate.

I don't use one any more but when I did, I made a copy of mine, wrote "copy, original available" and laminated it. I just laid it behind the windshield on the trike; never had a problem. I did see a LEO pick it up and look at it and just lay it back on the bike.
