Can anyone explain why Spyder/Ryker's do not come with a hand brake as standard as they are included in their ATV's. Seems to me that it would be a natural as a lot of buyers come from the two wheeled world.

It's because BRP's main 'target market' with these machines is new riders, ie, those who have never used hand-brakes or hand-clutches/foot gear selectors before, or those who've always relied on their Right Foot alone to do ALL their braking!! That, added to the Three Wheel stability thing with the all encompasing 'Nanny' & her Safety Suite; the single throttle control (which is really the only different thing these 'new riders' need to learn); and the same Right Foot operated brake that they've always used to apply both front & rear brakes in their auto's all serves to make these new Spyders/Rykers feel less threatening & more attractive to all those potential new buyers from the vast pool of those with 'no previous motorcycle riding experience', so they can be lured into buying & experiencing the joys of 'knees in the breeze' etc that all us 'already experienced riders' know about & enjoy - WE don't need to be convinced that Spyders/Rykers can be fun & a whole new experience that can keep us ryding as our limitations call for more stability & control; or for those who still want to push the envelope, goes well beyond the limitations of 2 wheeled machines!! WE already know all this, so we don't need convincing to graduate from our 2 wheeled 'toys' to these new & different 3 wheeled machines - but those who've never tried being anything much besides being a passenger in a cage before are waaay more likely to find the simplicity & familiarity of the existing Spyder/Ryker controls a warm & comforting enticement rather than a challenge!

Plus, by sticking with the same few basic control systems found in most cars (albeit not necessarily using the exact same control devices!) BRP have been able to convince many Authorities/Jurisdictions that ryders of their Spyders/Rykers don't need a different or additional licence - after all, if an operator can already drive a car with a throttle, a foot brake, and a steering device, then surely it's not too much to expect that they'll be able to ryde/drive a Spyder/Ryker that also has a throttle (OK, admittedly it's a hand throttle ) a foot brake (just like in their car, only if you stomp on it the Spyder/Ryker will stop a LOT quicker!! ) and handlebars for steering (after all, doesn't everyone know vaguely how they work?! )

So by leaving off the hand-brake and keeping the hand controls down to those that are essential by sticking with the 'standard Foot operated Brake pedal' that the majority of road users are already familiar with, BRP have opened the door to many potential buyers who would otherwise probably not even consider a Spyder/Ryker - AND they've been able to get many jurisdictions to allow those with car licences to operate these machines with no additional licence required! And for most who've become used to riding with a hand-lever to operate the front brake, it really doesn't take too long to get used to using just the foot pedal, especially when it comes with the addition of EBD & ABS & Enhanced Traction & Stability Control etc etc....

.... and let me add there have been a few folks who made their own at way less cost using mostly off-the-shelf parts ..... but nobody is marketing a KIT other than ISCI ..... mike
