New Ryker - but need advice for the long ride home?!
Got a fair deal on a Ryker Rally one state over. Would have to ride it home, about 250 miles. Just looked at the owners manual on line for break in and it said to limit full throttle for the first 200 miles. Does anyone have any advice for the ride home?

You won't need full throttle for any of the ride, so I would go for it.

Just stay off the interstate and vary speed on the back roads.

I did the same! Had never even tested a Ryker before. Bought a one way train ticket, and drove it home in one go, went really smooth!
Just take a look at the map, and try to choose a route that avoids busy highways in order to not be forced to a constant RPM for very long periods of time.
Your main concern should be pain in your face after smiling non stop for 250 miles

Might be worth the cost of a cheap hotel to putter around the dealership for a few miles and leave out sometime the next day? I considered the same issue (also about 250 miles) when contemplating a bike in AR (I'm in TX, too).

For engine break in purposes, it's nessecary that you vary engine rpm's, not to long same rpm, tyres need about 200km's to get the new of them, brakes also need some time to settle, remeber these thee thing, and just enjoy the ride home.
hafta agree, with RickD,be well rested before you take on a trip, with a machine , you are not completely formiliar with.
oi, i see now, you are already a veteran driver
the funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it........

Good advice above, but were it me, I'd hit the interstate, especially near home to give it a bit of higher speed break in.

Too much anaylsis! Just get on it and ride the route you want. You will get enough speed variation to satisfy all needs. Like Cruzr Joe said, ride it like you stole it. For 250 miles, it is no big deal how you ride it, just don't go full throttle per the manual.

That's what I did on my first ride home....back roads and then a few miles of highway.

Absolutely! Backroads are more fun and 250 will blow by in a heartbeat.

Break-in miles
IMHO all vehicles are put together way better than 10-15 years ago..... Here's how I would do this .... if you ride the highway go 55 - 65 - 60 - 70 mph and vary it. plan some some alternate side roads... like 2 lane State highways ... When I bought my 14 RT it was in Illinois about 1450 miles away from my home in Vermont. I did what I said above. .... So far at 56,000 mi+ my Spyder is fine .... good luck .... Mike
