Leaking Valve Cover Gasket? Is this common?
Went for new brakes and I was told I need a valve cover gasket. I have never seen any oil on my garage floor. I also was told I need new gas lines on a 2009 with 10k miles. Is this common? 998 cc

If it is the front cylinder valve cover gasket they say is leaking it might instead be dripping down from the airbox. Oil mist blows into the airbox and if there is quite a lot it dribbles out of the upper and lower half join and runs down onto the front valve cover.

YES YES YES ......you need to get another opinion .... I've been in this web site for over 9 years and NO it's not common .... I'm pretty sure a cylinder pressure test is in order form someone other than that dealer ..... good luck .... BRP states you need the have the Valves checked on the V-twins every 14,000 mi., however many many folks here have discovered that the VALVES DON'T need adjusting .... some her have gone over 100,000 miles without valve checks ..... It's not the miles, but the time that you need to be concerned about. Good advise on the valve cover gasket. That should not be too difficult to confirm. If it is the gasket, the oil issue will begin directly BELOW the gasket. If it is coming from the air box, you will find evidence of oil in other than directly below the gasket.
Have you 'Topped Off' the oil lately? Have you checked the oil level lately? If so, how did you go about it? Did you check with a cold engine before startup? All possible contributing factors to your issue. But I would certainly look a little closer before springing for a $900.00 fix. I hate to say it. But they could just clean up the mess, charge you, and you'd never know the difference.
I am not saying that they are wrong. If it is a valve cover gasket, then good for them. If not, good for you.

Thanks I will have to check those things. My bike is at the shop right now. They did a safety check while waiting on my rotors to come in. I haven’t checked the oil. I put 3k miles on it since I purchased it from a dealer.
