    .

Well, after 50 years of skiing, I fell, yard sale of equipment, and one broken . Fracture of the rt lateral tibial plateau. I'm just not used to crutches and a wheelchair. Two kinds of bikers (and skiers) - those who have had an accident, and those who are going to. Guess I've made both.

    On the bright side.
You should heal up in time for riding season.

Very sorry to hear of your misfortune. Depending upon injury location, you might want to look into using a knee scooter. They are much easier than crutches and they are not very expensive. Good luck..... heal soon! Jim

I have one leg amputated at the knee and the other one has all the padding in the knee joint wore down to bone on bone. Walking with crutches is very painful. I use the electric handicap scooters to get around, and take my own to the grocery store, because the grocery store electric carts are always either not charged up or people with two legs are riiding around on them. A good scooter will cost about $2500 but worth it. I work from the scooter in my shop at home and do a lot of vegetable gardening from it. You can adapt to not being able to walk. Medicare or insurance might pay for the first one.

Look up Handicap Scooters on any search engine. You can get them from some drug stores or medical supply houses all over the country. I bought one during the Covid shutdown when you couldn't get nothing shipped in. Bought it on line in Washington state at a medical supply house and had it shipped to Florida in a crate. Put it together myself. Most of them are fairly simple, mechanically, and about the only routine maintenence is charging or rplacing the batteries about every 2 years when they will no longer hold a charge. You can get the replacement batteries from auto parts stores (usually cheaper than the OEM batteries).

The knee scooter is a great idea.
I can not use crutches and rented one when I broke my foot.
Wife used one when she broke her ankle.
If I remember right it was about $50CDN a month.

Wow Lew, that's a hard one. You can't really put any pressure on that knee, can you? How long do they say before you are healed up enough to put pressure on it? Sorry for the crash, I gave up skiing in my 50's just because of the fear that something like that might happen to me. Good luck on the fast healing.

Thanks very much. No weight on the knee as it's broken right at the top of the tabular. It's going to be a while for sure. Just got an orthopod appt this morning. It may heal before I get to see an actual orthopedic doctor. Appt tomorrow is a nurse practitioner. Guess we should be happy with the health system we have as most other places aren't any better. I'll try not to be a complainer while I'm laid up. My neighbors are GREAT. Wife is better............
