How many actual images are there that make it up; what's the refresh rate; and how do you get it so fast?? My aging tablet seems to run it for a bit, then sorta stutters for maybe a second or part there-off before trying to catch up... I haven't looked to see if the 'phone does the same thing, but it is a fair bit newer, so maybe not - or maybe it's just my aging eyes not managing to keep up?!

It is only 4 frames. I ran the speed higher by dropping the lag time between frames down lower. It is actually a fractal image that I created with a different image program. I removed parts of it one color at a time, until the total image size dropped below 100 KB. The end image is only a partial fractal now. What is left is just the skeleton of the fractal image it started out as. Colors were removed because the number of colors involved in an image increases the image size. It is not really spinning, it just has 4 different positions in the 360 degree circle and moves fast enough to fool the human eye into thinking it is spinnng around.
Most everything you see that appears to be moving is not. The television, movies, videos, and other things which appear to be in motion are just flashes of pictures in slightly different positions changing faster than the human eye can follow, so they appear to be moving.
Using the same method from a different perspective, it is possible to have a rapidly spinning object, which appears to be staionary to the human eye. The way to get this is by having the spinning points at exactly fractional angles of 360 degrees. It has to divide in even numbers. At the flash of each frame, the points will always be stopped at the same place. They may appear to be different colors, but the object will not appear to spin. It is all done with math and speed adjustments. The object is spinning around, but appears to be stationary with just colors changing on the points.
