Could not have picked a better day on the Shenandoah Parkway.
Temperatures on the Parkway between 69°& 75.°
Left Buckingham Va. around 6 AM got to Front Royal Shenandoah Parkway entrance at 9 AM
waited for 30 minutes before heading down the Parkway to see if anybody was coming.
The contrast between the Carolina blue sky and the desolate vegetation was quite striking.
Only saw three other motorcycles in the four and half hours on the Parkway.
Surprisingly the Blue Ridge Pkwy. was closed on the other side of the Parkway on the other side of 64.

Love the area. We are doing a trip in May starting at Front Royal and driving all the way down to Cherokee.

Beautiful. I have done the entire BRP and Skyline Drive on a 3 day trip with a friend. Although Skyline Drive was nice, the 35 mph speed limit was a bit low for me. I actually enjoy the BRP south of the Boone area a little better. But it all is good when you just feel like cruising and getting away from it all. Now that time is changing, I will be doing some day trips up to the BRP and taking in some of the roads between Boone and Little Switzerland.

If you start at Skyline Drive and go all the way south on the BRP to Cherokee, you will have a truly enjoyable time. There are so many overlooks that you will want to take in them all. There are also places to check out like Little Switzerland, Grandfather's Mt., Linville Falls, Mt. Mitchell, etc. We did that trip over 3 days, the longer you have, the better the trip can be.

Skyline Drive/Blue Ridge Pkwy is truly one of Americas most beautiful rides.
Artillery lends dignity to what would
otherwise be a vulgar brawl.

Reminder: Skyline Drive's $30. 'toll' is good for a round trip if done within 7 days of 1st entry.
As mentioned, the BRP is far more enjoyable than Skyline IMO. It's free and the posted limits are higher (45 most sections). 469 miles of beauty and speed limit is rarely observed by many. Plenty of rural alternate routes to reach the top of BRP w/o Skyline.
