I installed my zumo xt today. It seems like it would be easy to lose it on the road somewhere. The scenario I envision is reaching for something in the glovebox an inadvertently dragging my forearm across the latch, loosening the unit. Then while I'm going down the road it falls off somewhere. A lanyard ring on the unit attached by a lanyard to another ring on the base would add much security.

Here is a possible solution that also will give peace of mind when stopping for a head call and not having to remove the GPS. Yes, a bit pricey but the work quality is excellent. I leave my Zumo on the bike all the time except when overnighting on tour. https://robertbeckerdesign.com/kradellock-xt/

If something like this is available for the XT you can drill a small hole into the lower side and run some type of safety cable and maybe loosely loop it around your handlebar or something.
I have one of these on a 660 and it fits very snugly - it actually fits so tight that I put felt bits on the tabs to keep from scratching the Nav when I put it on.
