    Default Hey everyone

Just registered on the site. Have been lurking for a week or so and have found answers to many of my initial Spyder questions just by searching. Also have been watching tons of you tube videos of Spyders too.

A little about me, been riding two on wheels for about 50 years. I’ll be 64 later this month. I’m going to transition to three wheels in the form of a Spyder hopefully soon, although I don’t think I’m completely through with two wheels just yet either. I retired at 62 and now plan to do all the traveling I didn’t have time for when working. I think I’ll be putting lots of miles on a Spyder...when I finally get one.

I currently consider myself an adventure rider hence my screen name but I also was very much into off road riding too. I spend much of my online life at advrider.com. Hopefully many of you are also familiar with that site. If it were just me riding I’d probably go for the ryker rally but I am hoping to entice my wife to riding with me more so will likely purchase an RT Limited so she’ll have all the creature comforts available! I do want to check out the FT3 Limited before making a final decision tho.

Hopefully too, this covid business well settle out soon and I can make it to a rally or two and meet some of you all in person. Looking forward to learning much from this site.

Welcome to the forum Adventurer. I hope you enjoy it. As you know there is lots of good information here on the different models of Spyders and Rykers in the different areas of the forum. Once you are able you can post any questions in the area of the forum that applies that you may have and I'm sure others will help as best they can. The Spyder is a great touring bike but the one draw back for you will be off road however there are some videos here from martin that show him riding off or should I say on rough roads with his Spyder. Once you get use to riding the Spyder you will love it. It is a learning curve tho, it is nothing like two wheels. First thing your going to do is reach for the brake that is not there, it's all in the foot pedal. then you will want to put your foot down when you come to a stop, no more of that. When you stop for a red light just sit there fold your arm if you want the Spyder will hold you up as you wait, no clutch to hold in. If you forget to down shift don't worry the Spyder will do it for you. One more thing there is not kick stand when you park. So it takes sometime to get use to but will worth it. Good luck shopping, I hope to see you around the forum soon.

Thanks for the welcome! I had already thought about no front brake or clutch lever, that’s going to be weird for a while. Hadn’t thought of the putting foot down at a stop but that’s a good point maybe your reminder will keep me from running over my own foot! I’ve read the do’s and do not’s and quickly picked up on avoiding gravel roads which is a big bummer for me but not a deal breaker. I figure there are plenty of paved two lane back roads throughout the US and Canada to keep me happy and busy for many years. Too bad BRP won’t put me on their design team or I’d have them busy working on an Adventure Tourer for sure!

ya alot have said they would like to see a shaft drive Spyder that sit just a little higher so dirt roads would not be a big problem. The big problem is picking up rocks or debris in the bet.
