    Default New Luggage

    Right after I purchased the Ryker in July, I fabbed up a bracket and I added some throw over saddlebags. Even though they were a little on the smallish side, and I couldn't lock them, they really worked well and served their purpose. Earlier this month, I ran across a nice deal on this set of lockable hard side luggage on sale for $169 on Amazon, and they came with a bunch of different mounting brackets, some of which I was able to use. They also come with rear lighting that I still have to hook up.

    These side cases were larger and heavier, so needles to say, a new bracket was needed to mount them. After the bracket was grinded down and sanded, I painted it black, along with all the other hardware, nuts & bolts. I also removed the inserts on the outside of each case and painted them to match the liquid steel trim on the Rally. I managed to get them mounted high enough as to not cover up the rear wheel, and I dont have to bend over to access them. Here's a few pics.

    My homemade bracket which I painted black.

    Are those " Mutaza " brand ..... if so there were problems reported about the locking mechanism Failing ...... I drilled a hole on the inside of both bags, thru the mounting bracket. Then welded a nut to the bracket, so I can put a bolt to keep the bag from coming off..... A bit more of a Hassel to remove the bags .... but I won't EVER lose them ..... good luck .... Mike

    They're not Mutaza brand. But for that price, I'm sure they are some other Chinese brand. I posted a link above. The locks are working fine, but if they go bad its not much to replace them. I have a set of Shad side cases on my Kawasaki that cost more than triple the price of these. Honestly, they're not triple the quality.

    Thanks all. The biggest problem was trying to figure out a way to mount them, while still allowing me to use the Linq accessory plate. Before I had decided to do saddlebags, I had invested in the Linq plate and two different Linq top cases which wasnt cheap. That bracket was the key.

    you went from one great set up, to another great set up. Looks awesome! The new bracket also looks a lot more heavy duty than the previous version.

    Thanks. I ended up adding additional support brackets on the previous version because when the bags were loaded up, whenever I was riding on rough surfaces I experienced some flexing with that bag support. Adding two horizontal brackets underneath helped to stiff it up a bit and then it was fine. But then I saw these larger side cases on Amazon at a great price, thought about it for a little bit and I decided to go for it. I first tried to mount the new side cases on the original saddlebag bracket, but once I had the heavy mounting brackets installed on the back side of each case, they were too heavy for that original saddlebag bracket, even with the additional supports added. A more heavier duty main bracket was needed. Here's a pic of those brackets on the backside of each case.

    I recently noticed that these match the Slingmods side cases that they sell as a 3 piece set with top case for $800 + 100 shipping. These have the same latches, same light location, the same lid inserts & round logo thats on Slingmods, except their insert & logo is painted black. Must be manufactured by the same overseas company.

    Good looking rig. Wonder if whoever designed those bags has a Ryker in their garage? :-}

    Got me wondering if these old KG bags would fit? I've had them on several bikes since buying them new 40 years ago, so I've gotten pretty good at fabbing brackets, and they tuck in nice and tight.

    Do you happen to have the measurements by chance of the bracket you made

    The specific dimensions of this bracket was made to fit on the LinQ Accessory base, if fitting on just the Max mount, the measurements would need to be adjusted. I just made sure that the bags (if I hung them lower) would clear the driveshaft housing on the left side, and that the bracket would clear the ears on each side of the plate. Bags are evenly spaced on both sides. The side plates that hang down 3-3/4" could be made to hang down further based on your particular bag size & needs.

    After paint & install.

    I would like to know the material type as well as the thickness of the materials you used as well. Thanks. I would be planning on this set up when I get myself a Ryker, hopefully by this summer.
