Clicking gear sounds when accelerating?
Hi All,
Holiday greetings from Salt Lake City! I picked up my new 2020 Ryker Rally a couple of weeks ago and now have about 250 miles on it.
One thing that I've noticed is what I would describe as a clicking gears sound that happens sometimes when accelerating.
It may be that as is the case with all bikes, just takes some getting used to accelerating smoothly?
Mentioned it to the sales guy at the dealer and brought it over for a look see. He drove it around for a bit and said there is nothing wrong with it.
Anyone know of this issue with any other Ryker's?
Thanks,
Michael

So the sound you are hearing is normal. It will get a little quiter with time, but its the design with the belt. Nothing to worry about.

A thunk when the centrifugal clutch engages is normal unless the throttle is rolled on very gently. I would associate a clicking sound with something more sharp. Does it happen only when accelerating from a stop?
Or is it a repetitious sound? If so, what is its frequency, such as one click per second?

Have a knowledgeable mechanic check it out, not a salesman.

Thanks for the response. Just happens from a stop. Michael

If you don't mind taking an extra second leaving a stop, roll the throttle on gently to engagement RPMs and the primary clutch thunk/clunk is less likely to be heard.

I dont think its the initial clunk at starting off that he's talking about. I get the same clunk and then several slight clicks at start off, its done it since day one, no performance issues related to it. Seems not to happen if I give it more throttle at take offs, but if I gently give it just enough throttle to engage, I get the clicks.

There's a lot going on in there you have two clutches in there that operate on centrical force, dogs engaging, rollers, and not to mention parts that slide on each other and those parts do have a little play in them, so you will have some sounds coming from them!! If you have ever had a sled you will hear these sounds quite often. When the sounds are very load and constant that's when it's time to worry! With my sleds I take my clutches apart and clean and inspect for worn parts yearly, you get a lot of belt dust in there that will gum things up and stop them from working right! I will admit I don't own a Ryker, but I am formulary with centrical clutches! Good luck, be safe!!!

A thunk is a better description of what I hear, so I'll get the feel of the throttle as time goes on. Thanks!

All makes sense. Thanks Mikey!
