Default Guess someone named Kevin Bliss needed to make a point? Yes, you can flip a Spyder

Yes, you can flip a Spyder!

This is the caption from the original post on FACEBOOK.

"Whoever said you can’t flip a Spyder lied. I know my intelligence will be insulted by posting this video. I knew this simple act of ignorance and indulgence would come at a cost. Before this attempt, I had already premeditated the potential consequences. I was willing to accept them, whether it be monetary or otherwise. I definitely do not recommend trying this at home. As a disclaimer, I knew the probability of causing damage to my Spyder was highly likely. I also knew I’d have the financial ability to fix or replace this beautiful machine if needed. -- KEVIN BLISS"

I saw that earlier on FB. Moron. That's someone who has too much money and not enough sense. Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you SHOULD do something.

If you want to flip your Spyder, it's easier to do in reverse. Personally, I don't think I'd want to work that hard to break my ride. And if I did, I think I'd at least gear up first. But who knows. If this helps someone avoid an issue, more power to him. I think if it was me, I'd have burned the footage and never mention it again. But that's just me. Maybe my ego is more fragile than his!

setting up a slick set of leaves to purposely try to flip.....................of course you can flip a Spyder if you do it right, and he DID it right. Too much money to flip just to repair a few things. YOU are not National Safety Commission!!!

I've always told people, "I'm not going to say it's impossible to roll a Spyder, but it is very unlikely because it is so computer controlled! Nanny will roll the throttle back and even set the brakes if it needs to to keep from rolling over."

I wonder if that would of happened if he had keep the wheels straight going through the leaves instead of cranking the handle bars back and forth? My guess is no it wouldn't.

    Crash test dummy.....................

Nanny was not designed to work in a full broadside slide, if he even had it on.

He could have rolled it easier in a steep ditch with less danger of damage.

I wonder if his rear break was disconnected as well. That would help flip it when turning like that. Not that an upstanding citizen like that would rig the bike to make his video go viral or anything.

At the tender young age of 55, I only started riding a year ago when my son got his motorcycle endorsement (2-wheel). My wife and I both earned our 3-wheel endorsements about a month ago and bought our first Spyder (RT) a couple weeks ago. Though I'm a "late bloomer," I've been a pilot most of my life, to include flying helicopters, tailwheel airplanes (a reverse trike of sorts, without all the Can-Am tech), and floatplanes. That experience helps a little.

I've heard/read many folks assert that riding 3 wheels is way easier than riding 2 wheels. I don't agree. So far I've learned that they're different. A trike like a Can-Am has certain stability advantages over a 2-wheel (like my brick-simple Boulevard S40). But even on a "smart" trike like a Can-Am, there are also ways it can reach around and bite you on the butt. Especially if you aren't careful. Or acting plain stupid.

    Respect.

Being different is what we preach here all the time! In some respects the Spyder is easier to ride in that you don't have to contend with potential tip over situations. It mostly is harder in cornering. On two wheels there is a 'sweet spot' of radius, speed, and angle of lean, that enables the two wheeler to go around the curve with no steering input. The G forces also are in line with your spine so you don't feel any centrifugal force pushing your body sideways. Steering around a corner with a Spyder is a full time job and the forces add up to one pushing your body sideways.

Wow! I can't say much about him though. I've done my own stupid test (Trike Vs Wall) I even filmed it (the wall was never the plan) but when it was all said and done posting it was over the top. So it didn't go there. Even saying it may get me an extra stupid tax charge! The first $12,000+ charge was enough!

What was that? Yes Officer, I'll go peacefully ....
