Can I safely increase the Fuse size for the power port in the trunk?
I updated my 2017 Spyder RT with a dual USB port for the passenger seat. I spliced into the wires for the cigarette lighter in the trunk as the vendor suggested and provided video for. It has been fine, but this AM I used a DC compressor to inflate tires and connected to the cigarette lighter. All went well. However, a bit later, I was checking on something else and the power to the lighter was dead. Fuse was blown. It’s a 5 AMP. I thought maybe the compressor end up blowing it. Can I safely increase the fuse to a 7.5 or 10 amp? I have only three things I use it for: charging USB phone and/or camera, run pump for a cycle chiller unit which is 7.4 volt, and inflating tires with the compressor. It seems only the compressor could be a prob. It will draw 10 amps on start up. Does not say how many it draws while running.

Check the manual and see what size fuse belongs in that circuit. If the compressor blows the fuse, the safest way to go would be to run a heavier circuit direct from the battery to power the compressor. You could put it on a relay if you need to, so that the plug would not be hot when the key was off.

Look at pg 156 of your operator's guide regarding fuses 6 and 7 in the right fuse box (as you're sitting on the bike, of course). Gwolf is right in the bulls-eye about having your compressor circuit directly to the battery. Never increase the size of a fuse in a circuit above the mfg stated size unless you want to toast some wiring.
Artillery lends dignity to what would
otherwise be a vulgar brawl.

A fuse is put in line in a circuit to protect the wiring, not the devices attached to that circuit. Keep that in mind.

Fuse is 5 amps because the wiring can safely handle 5 amps. Increase the fuse size and the fuse won't blow, BUT the wiring will.

That socket is NOT for a cigarette lighter or anything like that.
It is their as an accessory jack for LOW POWERED USB devices!
A compressor will and did Blow your fuse AND is NOT WIRED for high amperage.

It is NEVER safe to increase fuse size in any circuit unless you bring the entire circuit up to the new load requirements. Doing so simply provides job security for your local fire department.
