Brakefree Helmet Light
I finally received my shipment of the Brakefree helmet light.
They come from Hong Kong and it was in transit for 19 days. Package arrived in one piece and everything was as ordered.
A very well put together item and larger than I thought it would be.
The unit measures 7 1/2 inches by 3 inches. Has 100 LED's and is very bright and noticeable to others.
The unit has a stick-on mounting piece that glues to the helmet and the Brakefree unit snaps into it. They recommend 2 - 12 hours before use. Clean helmet with alcohol wipe and place stick on unit in place.
My Bell Magnum/Sena actually had an indented place where the unit fit into perfectly. The unit snaps into and off of the mount very easily.
Took it out for a test drive this PM and Linda said it lit up very bright. It lights up each time you step on the brake pedal. At night, this one will be something to see.
Cost $169.99 plus $10.00 shipping. A bit pricey IMO, but a very nice unit. I was not able to transfer a picture only. Did not want to put in an attachment to the web site as I do not want to be accused of pushing a non-sponsor product.
I did contact the company to see if they wanted to become a SL sponsor, but have not heard back from them as of yet.
You can find them if you want to look closer.

Do you have to install a switch on the bike so it knows when you hit the brake, how's that all work?

I was thinking the same and then realized if I purchased a second helmet mount I could attach it to the navigator's helmet.

I don't know the technical stuff. A deceleration switch makes the light kick in when you impede forward motion as in brake, or slow down. The harder the braking, the brighter the light. The connection between helmet and bike is completely wireless.

I did not get a version with the directionals. The set up is such that it would be a great idea if they could get it to work. There would be no doubt about your intentions to turn.

Rechargeable battery just like garmins etc. I note that my garmin does not work good if the temps get over 90 degrees, have not tried cold weather operation yet.

I am only going to buy one unit, but since I have two different bikes, and two different helmets, I have ordered a set of attachment units so I have one for the other helmet and a spare. Cost for two is $15.99 but I got them on sale for $12.99 plus $3.00 shipping.
