Default Pulling the trigger on a '21 RT Limited - looking for general info

    Hi,
Like the title says .. well almost. Maybe not so general, although general impressions would certainly be welcome!!
Really excited about this, but I have some questions.

I've worked on my own bike in the past, can I work on these myself for general maintenance? Tire changes, oil changes, battery swaps ... adding a tender, or LED lights?
I am concerned that it is sooooo technical that I'll need to go to a dealer all the time.

Are there any maintenance nightmare stories, or nightmares in general I need to think about or be aware of?
Anything at all ... this is a TON of money for us, and I'll be moving over from by beloved Yamaha Venture.

I'll take all the praises too!

The Spyder is way different than the Yamaha or any two wheeler for that matter. Yes you can work on your Spyder as a lots of us do and add your own accessories also. We have some of the best sponsors here that offer the best after market Spyder plug and play accessories, you can see their banners on the home page. If you have not ridden a Spyder before it will take you sometime to get use too. I can say they are a very good machine and fun to ride. When you came to a red light you just sit there and wait, your foot never hits the ground the Spyder holds you up you don't have to hold it up. Good luck shopping, I hope to see you around the forum soon.

There are enough you tube video's to shake a stick at, once you learn how to get her shirt off, you can do all those things easily, just take your time and pick yourself up the tools you need!!! It's a heck of a lot cheaper to do it!!

I agree.I do my own stuff and usually most things don't take a mechanics degree. That is not to say that some things, tho not mechanically difficult, are not a frustrating time consuming PIA!Pretty much just like any car, truck or bike.Research what you want to do(utube is great as is this forum)take your time and if you need a special tool by all means buy it! By the way,you are going to love your new ride once you get used to it!

    Hi Mike

I am an average DIYer not really mechanically inclined.I have been able to add LED lights / fog lights, cruise control, heated grips, etc. everything is pretty much plug and play. Like everyone already mentioned plenty of video to help and everyone on spyderlovers is always willing to help. I got stuck on a couple of things and many people from here had the answers. Great bunch of people on this forum

There are installation videos for many MODs from vendors you purchase the MOD from + youtube + this forum.

The support for Spyder's is amazing.

I'd suggest checking out forum sponsor vendors first - such as Lamonster Garage.

Lamont has been working on Spyder's and developing/testing products for Spyder's since 2008 (when first Spyder's were sold). He is always my first stop for shopping.

The other sponsors on this forum are first rate as well - Just think if they weren't they would't last long - feedback on this forum is a powerful tool.

Watch videos - ask questions here - take your time.

Yes, many times most of the work is taking off lots of Tupperware before you can even do a simple install. PIA/Time consuming sometimes but it also gives you the chance to get to know your bike.

You can get a service manual at a reasonable price at this link: https://canammanuals.com/. IMO they are good to have if you like to save $$ over dealership labor costs.
