Rear brake Pad Change frequency on RTL 2014+

How many miles or kilometers did you change the rear brakes ??

I changed my first set of rear Pads at 30,011 miles, and I dodged a bullet. They had maybe another 500+ miles on one side. I'll be checking them again at the end of this season ( 27,500 +/- ) ... you didn't ask, but my fronts 42,800 mi. and there was maybe 2 -3,000 left ...... I usually slow down by not using the throttle and let the RT downshift on it's own ..... however in the twistie's I will brake more ... good luck .... Mike

I didn't buy my Spyder new, I bought from a private individual, when i checked the brakes for the first time i found them thin for 10,000 kilometers, I decided to change them to 18,000, it was worn at an angle, I found why worn at an angle, the two guide pins, the grease was dry, I will watch the fat of his two pines.

I got 22.4K on the first set of rear pads and 26.9K on the second pair. There was still life left on the second pair but I switched all pads to EBC full sintered and EBC rotors at 49.4K on the clock. Still lots of life left on all the EBC pads with 18K on them now. The pandemic is killing my annual mileage; am down about 6K this year.

After changing the OEM brake pads for OEMs and the brake oil I noticed a good improvement.

I changed pads on all three wheels at 30,000 miles. The rears were due so I just swapped them all out for the EBC pads. I could tell an improvement especially after doing the break in ritual. The rear pads tend to wear quicker since they live in a dirtier environment than the front pads and they also get less cooling air circulating tucked in where they are. Heat and grime kills them quicker.

Replaced my rears at 40k and the fronts at 50k. Working on customers bikes I have seen rears gone in 8k or last as long as 50. All depends on how you ride.

Also the reason the rears wear much more quickly than the front is the VSS actively uses the rear brake to control wheel spin and for yaw rate control.

My standard response to the question about the improvement with EBC fully sintered pads and rotors is if you have to really use them they will stop you like the hand of God. I do not find them grabby or twitchy.

Ha .. Thanks. I just scored a complete (3) wheel set of EBC HH's on Ebay for $70/shipped. Now, did you use the OEM shim pieces, or leave them off ?

I replaced the rear pads at 36,100 mi on the 15 RT with BajaRons EBC pads. Had the fronts replaced by Lamonster garage when they inspected and aligned the front again at 56,000 mi last year.

Mostly highway miles and let the engine downshift, but they were both due...

I changed over to the Ebc pads bc I wasn’t happy with the original pads at 18000 miles.The old pads looked great ,hardly worn but the new pads are quieter,stronger and cleaner.
