Another dealer dropping Spyder Line
I stopped by Jaycox Powersports, Worthington, MN. To see what they had in stock for Spyders. They told me they are discontinuing the Spyder/Ryker lines. They will continue with other CanAm products. This means I have to ride further to get service for my Spyder. They are about 40 miles from me. This means I have to go to Sioux Falls, SD or Algona IA for service. Both are between 1 to 2 hours away.
I have started to look for a RT or F3 Limited for trips, to replace my 2009 RS. Now I may add a Goldwing trike, other trike or Slingshot to the search, simply because I can get parts and service closer to home.
Living rural Iowa is proving to be getting harder to to find motorcycle dealers. The small town dealers are drying up.

Welcome to the club. When I left AK, the one and only dealer in the state also discontinued the Spyder lineup. BRP wanted him to purchase a minimum of 12 Rykers. That was the straw that broke the camels back. It would have been a thousand mile drive to Seattle WA, or Whitehorse Yukon Territory to have my Spyders serviced. Had I stayed, I would not have continued on with Spyder.
Service was also becoming an issue. Towards the end, they were stocking little to no parts, the tech had long gone and they now had oil change jockeys to do service. My appointments were now a week out, and I refused to bring it in until they had the parts for my servicing. Mostly oil changes and tires the last couple years.

The question is do you like the Spyder ride enough to travel some distance to upgrade or are you willing to settle for second best for the convenience a closer dealership. If you buy a GW trike will the local Honda dealership service it? Some of them won't.
Artillery lends dignity to what would
otherwise be a vulgar brawl.

For me, 1000 miles one way for service was not an option.
RE: GW trike...the local dealer would not touch them with a 10 ft. pole.

There are small shops that will work on wings. I prefer the Spyder, but riding 100 to 200 miles, or more. for a oil change, makes things more difficult We have a Indian dealership locally that services the major brands, but not Spyders.

Crap! I got mine at Worthington as well. Algona is closer to me. How is the dealer there?

When I lived in MN my dealer was 102 miles from my home. Took 2 hours to get there, but the fun part was the ride. There were closer dealers (one was 1.5 miles from my house), but when you have an outstanding dealer it's worth the time and distance to use them.

Just because they are no longer selling Spyders and Rykers does not necessarily mean they can't service them. I had the same situation here and did have a former Can Am dealer do some service for me. They couldn't do warranty stuff but were still able to do tires, oil, etc..... Jim

None of your alternatives come close to a Spyder in my opinion

Learn to change your own oil plenty of YouTube videos to show you how

So true it's difficult to find someone to work on a GW conversion trike, a builder is about the only choice, then a builder doesn't want to touch the engine area. Spyder, not much better, there are no independents that I can find, so a dealer is the only choice. After my 3K mile check on my 2020, I'm trying my own oil change and hoping that all is well after that.

It sounds like they are still going to service BRP, but not have any on the show floor?? If they have a good shop, you don't have to buy the bike from them! Any way good luck!!

Sorry to hear about your dilemma and sucks they wont be able to service your current Spyder. It would be interesting to know the why they are dropping the line. Anybody know year over year sales for the Spyder/Ryker lines? Still leaning towards an F3/Ryker purchase but lately the Goldwing trikes have caught my eye.
-
My "local" dealer (where I bought my Spyder) had 7 or 8 Spyders/Rykers. As of a month ago, they were down to a single 2019 F3L. I think that's been sold now. They said they were waiting on the 2021s but since those are just rebadged 2020s, who knows. They still service all Can Ams and still sell the Can Am SxS's.

We went from a Goldwing trike to an F3 Limited. The Goldwings are a pretty maintenance free bike, but driving it felt like riding a lumber wagon compared to the Spyder. Pluses and minuses to both, but we prefer the Spyder ride.

Now so many Can Am Dealers are dropping the Spyder line, I wondering where to keep my Spyder or put it up for sale and go back tp two wheels! Can Am need to work on setting up Dealers to handle their Spyder line up! My nearest dealer is 115 miles away! Don't know if you can even sell one right now!

They are selling. We had at least two for sale on SL in the last three days. Both were sold by the day after the ad first appeared.

Now that's funny Les, I live in Apple Valley and have a dealer 4 miles from my house but ride to the one in St.Bonni 1.5 miles from your old house
It could be because of the jerky at Mackenthuns.

Midwest Performance and Power in Keokuk IA also dropped their Spyder line. BRP told them they had to take on the Ryker line and they felt that there was not a market for them in the area. So they dropped the Spoilers but kept their offload lineup. Seems that BRP could stand a little flexibility on this or they will hurt themselves in the long run.
PS: They are my closest dealer at a little over an hour.

I had two bad experiences with St Boni service - so that's why I went to Caswell's in Mora.
