Fire Up and Stall
I haven't seen anyone else mention this---I was wondering if it's just me? My '08 SM5 developed the habit of the engine starting promptly, but then immediately stalling. The condition persisted after the 3,000 servicing/ECU remapping and the battery disconnect/reconnect procedure. I've found that sometimes if I blip the throttle just right it will stay running, but most of the time it takes 5 or 6 attempts before it continues to run. Once it's started, it seems to run just fine.
Anyone else experience that? Time to head back to the dealer, I guess.

This is not normal, and you are right to have the dealer take a look. He has the B.U.D.S. system and can look at several possible causes, even if there is no diagnostic code. I can think of several potential reasons, right off the top of my head, but you need the diagnostics to check them. One thing you want to know before you go in is whether it does the same for warm starts as it does cold. If it restarts normally after it is at operating temp, you may want to leave it at the dealer overnight, and let them know so they can try it cold.
