    Default Service Manuals

Are there bad and good service manuals out there. Should I stay away from any certain brand or kind?
Probably will be likely to be purchasing a USB Style.

They are all the same. A copy of BRPs manual. Plus some minor almost useless extras. Just look for the cheapest one to download.

The download service manual cost me $?$ and was sooo difficult to use (no index); that I gave up spending an hour just to find something I was looking for! I bought the (2) appropriate factory manuals from a former forum member ..... and what a pleasure to use. Each one weighs about 3 pounds; but well worth the price. Hard copy is the only way to go with any vehicle. Who wants to run back and forth from their garage/shop to their computer desk in the house for every little question?? not me. And I love being able to make chicken-scratched notes on the pages for future reference.

Every digital manual for Spyder I have seen has an index on the left. That is if you are using Adobe Acrobat Reader and have the book marks tab open. The index is clickable and will take you to that section. 2013 and later manuals are fully digital. So are fully word or phrase searchable. My guess is you had the bookmarks tab closed and could not see the index on the screen.

In my opinion the digital manual is far better than a paper one.

Can't help but quibble a little bit! What you are referring to is the Table of Contents. The manuals don't have a traditional index, i.e., a list of key words and the page numbers where they are located. That is usually at the back of the book. I've never missed the index. I find the search function in Adobe works quite well to find the page of interest if I can't get there from the TOC.

    Hi.

When I asked about a service manual it was recommended to me that this was a good one. It has been great so far. Especially the clickable chapters and index.

I am use to the PDF manuals though I still do like the feel of paper in my hand. That being said, I have a couple of laptops I use for service/bike stuff in the garage so I don't have to go far if I need info.

My manuals are an easy fit in my RTL trunk. Good feeling of security for longer trips. Still like making hand written notes on pages to click my old school brain into remembering what I did last time with this issue. I'm pretty computer savvy; but guess I still prefer old-school method for some things.

I totally agree with this thinking....I have a GPS which is handy, however it cannot compete with a handheld map...for my brain at least.

I like the Digital with acrobat Reader to search on what I want, I then print it and have the paper to make notes on and save. There is a whole lot of extra fluff in the paper book.
