    Default Anyone Ryde with Spondylolisthesis?

Simply stated, Spondylolisthesis is when a vertebrae in the back has slid forward a bit so it no longer sits perfectly over the vertebrae below it. It can be painless or it can flare-up into a quite painful condition. In my case, at least some pain is always there so usually I just put up with it.

However, a few weeks ago I hit a dip in the road while ryding my F3-T and felt shooting pain thru my back. Since then it's really been aggravated and I haven't been ryding at all.

It's starting to recover now (I hope), so I was wondering whether anyone here rydes with the same or similar condition? If so, how do you deal with it? Do you wear some kind of brace? Or is there some kind of mod you've done to your Spyder to make things easier? (I already have a driver backrest.)

    Thanks!

Be careful when riding roads with dips in them. Slow down so you don't get the whoop te doo feel when you encounter them.

I also have back issues, but have never worn a brace or did any modifications to the 's that I have owned.

Nothing worse than back issues...but 150,000+ miles later, I have not had anything crop up because of riding.

I sympathize with you as my wife has the condition; however, she doesn't ride except on rare occasions and has never had a problem with it as a passenger. I do behave myself when she's aboard though. She gets shots for it, some of which work better than others because the doctor cannot repeatedly place the needle exactly, and I mean precisely, exactly in the same spot.

I have mine at L3-L4, and it's a grade 1, and I never had an issue riding my Spyder or off road riding in my Wrangler. I used to do specific exercises for it. I also have a dermatome issue, self diagnosed and then confirmed with ortho dr. I exercise, and neither issue has been a problem for me. Of course mine is only grade 1, and by exercising I stopped it from going further. Did your ortho dr. tell you your grade level?

First visit with the specialist is about 1 week from now. I guess that I'll find out then. Thanks!

I've always had lousy posture - I slouch. Do you have a link for that posture brace?

    Thanks!

I've been diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis a few years ago, and since my late 20th had joint inflammation issues, end up with osteoarthritis on both of my knees. Gave up riding a few years ago, it was hard to push the cruiser or just sit on stop light. But recently discovered Spyder and going to pick one from dealerships next week. Took it for a test ride and was very pleased with the experience. So, you are not alone! Keeping inflammation under control with infusions.

I have many serious back problems and that is one of them. I bought an Ultimate seat with a driver backrest. It has much greater support than the stock seat and the driver backrest helps a lot.

GAWD we sound like a bunch of old farts! That said, let me join the crew. I suffer from the aftermath of L3, L4 compression fractures, Degenerative Disk Disease, Spinal Neuropathy, Arthritis and Shrapnel damage in both knees that finally made me give up my E-Glide. I ride a stock seat on my RT with the OEM backrest and only suffer when I don't see the upcoming pothole or speed bump (Bifocals you know). My best advice is to just be as observant as possible regarding road conditions and take your time on trips. My wife and I stop about every hour to "Stretch" and get everything moving again. When we do that, my issues stay in the tolerable zone and I live to ride another day.

Curious about how your posture brace is working out for you - especially while ryding?

    Thanks!
