    Question HMC filter

I'm going to be replacing the tranny filter soon and have a question. Owners manual says to activate system to relieve air (in the filter chamber????). Is this necessary?? Seems like one could R and R --- refill the oil and start to motor to let it fill and release any trapped air.

    Any help is much appreciated.

Edit: That would be the HCM filter.

Never did activate with BUDS. I installed and started the bike. No issues.

I've sold several hundred of the SE6 HCM filters. No one has done the BUDS procedure. No one has had any issues. As with any oil service. Fill with oil, start and let idle (do not rev up the engine) so that the system has time to fill all cavities before any load is introduced. It will work just fine.

I did not use B.U.D.S. when I changed my HCM filter at 56K service; no problem.

As the others have done I changed mine at the last oil/filter change. No Buds, except for the couple I drank.

Is there a video of changing the HCM filter and what are the torque amount for the filter bolts?
    Thanks

I don’t know about a video for the HCM filter but just tighten the bolts snug and don’t worry about torquing. Same goes for the oil plugs. Just tighten them snug and you will be OK.

Received the filter today and will install it at the next oil change before winter.

As with any part that seals with an O-Ring or rubber edge seal (as in the case with the 1330 HCM filter). It is most important that you tighten each fastener a little at a time so that you get equal and even pressure all the way around the seal perimeter. Just snug is sufficient as it is the rubber seal that is doing the work. Over-tightening is to be avoided. It is unnecessary and counter productive. I like to use a stubby 3/8" ratchet. This gives you a great feel for how tight each fastener is. And helps to keep from over-tightening.

And while tightening use a crosshatch pattern.this will ensure you dont go too far on one side while tightening.

If your torque wrench has calibrations for newton/meters use that. It tends to be more accurate.

    Hello JayBros,
When you replace HCM filter, 1) do you need to use gasket sealer when you install the replacement cover-filter assembly? and 2) do you know what torque to use on the HCM bolts?

    JayBros,
Sorry for the question abt torque spec. I see you'd already posted that info.
