    Default Power differences between EU and US and ECU modes.

    Hi, I'm looking to buy a Ryker and am hoping I can draw on the knowledge of forum members. I have a few questions which I hope you maybe able to help with:

    Power Difference between US and EU Rykers
    Regarding the less powerful EU Rykers:
    1) How is the power reduction/emissions compliance achieved? Different parts or just via the ECU?
    2) Does this also affect the 600 version?

    Modes
    Is it possible to reflash the ECU to get rally/sport+rally modes added to the 900/600 respectively?

    If you have any ECU Questions like this, contact Jason Robertson at 'ECU Xtreme' either via their Faceache page or rotaxracing@gmail.com

    That said, the Ryker 600 twin cylinder jobbie's are (obviously) always gonna be less powerful than the 900's, but all the other EU vs US stuff re power & tuning these days is controlled and managed via the ECU, so if you want ANY real power/torque changes, the ECU is the way to achieve it!

    I am finding the same data for US Rykers as for UK Rykers, other than UK has 2 year warranty and 2 year roadside assistance.

    600 is 50 hp@7300 (37.5 kw), 36.7 ft lbs@6000 (49.7 Nm)

    900 is 82 hp@8000 (61.1 kw), 58.3 ft lbs@6500 (79.1 Nm)

    Where are you finding less power for EU models?

    UK specifies fuel economy, which I did not find on US site.

    600 is 43.6 MPG or 5.41 l/100km

    900 is 34.9 MPG OR 6.75 l/100km

    I am at 900 miles in one month of ownership and have not yet tried Sport Mode.
    The rear breaks loose easy enough without inhibiting traction control.

    The power difference has also been mentioned on a YouTube video with the poster saying it's been confirmed by can-am. Will see if I can find the video...

    I hear they did something similar with the spyders (or at least in certain gears)

    The two spec sheets in post 3 are from CanAm, US left, UK right.

    I have seen a couple reviews of the 2019 model and those reviews indicated less horsepower and less torque. Some of those ratings were at lower RPMs.

    I do not know the source of these reviews but these are the numbers in those reviews:

    600 was 47 hp@7300, 35 ft lbs
    900 was 77 hp@7100, 56 ft lbs

    From “Top Speed”, “Ultimate Motorcycling” and “Cycle World”.

    Perhaps the performance difference could be transmission related if only minor differences (if any) in power?

    here in Europe they had to reduce the throttle grip by 25% ( noise-regulation)) only till 50 miles/hour (80 kmh) - thats why our 900 is much slower 0-60 miles ! (7,5 seconds)
    But for the 900 Ace engine there are a lot of different ECU-Versions on the market, (seadoo-skidoo...), it should be no problem to find someone for a "faster" mapping ..(5,3 seconds)

    In hindsight this matches with the graph above: slower to 80kmh and then the same (parallel gradient) above 80kmh.

    Nice! I asked my dealer, and they said they could not flash the ECU with US SW or install a US ECU. Makes sense from a legal Point of view. But once warranty runs out I will probably go for some aftermarket tune
