Default USB Connection at handle bars.

Hello, I'm a new rider on a 2018 Spyder RT. I find the BRP connection in the front trunk a pain. I'd like to have a USB relocated to the handle bar area, as well as the BRB USB. Prefer to listen to Spotify, and Amazon music from my phone at times. Streaming takes a lot of battery power, hence why the USB need.
Is there any u-tube instructions on this? The dealer wants $350...….. seems expensive! Currently I carry a spare battery pack for the phone.

    Thanks,
    Gary.

One option is to use a USB extension cable...cable tied to handlebars.
How many USB connections do you need?

I routed a cable back thru the inside of the frunk rear panel, up behind one of the headlights and thru the center windshield mount and I have the phone on the dash.

I added a Motopower USB kit to mine. I mounted the USB kit to a Ram mount phone holder via screws and marine epoxy. Works great.

Has anyone put a USB power port in one of the rocker switch holes? Looks good and has rubber caps for water protection.

I read somewhere here on SL that the cord sticking up under the handlebar can knock it off/break the connection.

I did add (with a help) an USB rocker switch to the middle empty position to my 2017 RTL switch panel. I rode the bike up to ten times since, no problems with anything sticking out. I think the issue might be if the USB rocker switch is mounted on the side of the switch panel.
We also removed the switch cluster in order to mount the USB rocker switch, please see How to remove switch cluster.

I added a FZ-1 fuse block as well. On my 2017 model, I had to remove the frunk to gain an access to unused switched plug (hidden and zip-tied), see Fuzeblock FZ-1 install on 2019 RTL and Fused electrical distribution block.
I didn’t want to tap to any light or other wires as I am worried this could potentially blow the cluster, please see link – I am not an electrician, but very carious. And I don’t like to modify existing wiring by cutting or splitting them. Therefore I added the FZ-1.

I added a dual USB power outlet to one of the rocker switch spots. I learned that you need to install it to the center spot or the handlebars will damage what's plugged into it.

I use a 90 degree USB cable to power the CB and it works fine.

I ran auxiliary wiring from the fuse block I set up for power - as the link above: https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/...ribution-block - Here is a link to a video of "Coach Bob" running a single wire to the USB rocker switch outlet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8I7q00fnVA8 Instead of using the auxiliary power point to energize the solenoid on the power block as I did, he ran wiring right to the USB rocker switch. For more than just power, you could plug an extension into the information port and run a line to the same area. If you are wanting to mount something near the hand grips, while I ran the wire to the rocker switch USB I also ran power up through the handlebars to a cigarette lighter style power outlet. I routed the wires as Coach Bob explains, but one went up between the handlebars, leaving slack so it wire won't get pulled when the bars are turned. I unscrewed the plastic back of the bars ran the wire in the cavity and the wire comes out a small hole I drilled to the outlet mounted on a Spyder Cuff. Run the wires through the hole in the plastic on the back of the bars before you attach the woring connectors. (Don't ask me how I know this) Photos are the USB rocker switch and the wire out of the back of the bars to the cig lighter outlet (round part behind Spyder Cuff)

You can also buy a USB angle adapter if you already have a USB cable

I have a 2018 rt, and the USB that was in the frunk, is now on the handle bars.
The USB wire comes from the dash, so it was easy to move it from the frunk to the handle bars.
I was able to relocate it with out removing the side panels, but removed what I could to get the wire relocated.
