    Default Keeping rodents out

Any suggestions on how to keep rodents from chewing wiring? Or keep them off the engine? I might just have to put moth balls around more frequently, unless someone has better ideas.

I was going to ryde this afternoon, and when I started my Spyder, I had same situation as what I had in December - the "check engine" light lit up, and I heard the blower come on. Fault code came up as P0118. At least I knew where to start looking, having been through this before. And I also know where to order a new terminal to fix the issue. They advised me that they are running two days behind, so it may be a while before I'm able to ryde again. I should have put more miles on yesterday evening!

I use a product called Mouse Pruff. Got it at a farm supply store, it is used to keep rodents out of tractor cabs.

WOW, that's nasty. I have an issue with mice in my shed and have used mothballs over the winter but they seem to not be working as well. Just watched a video that suggests using peppermint oil.
Sounds like it will work. https://youtu.be/frSFoxN-9xs

Thanks for all the suggestions. In the past, mothballs have worked best for me; it's just a matter of remembering to put fresh ones in place.
I have tried the peppermint-scented rodent repellents from the hardware stores. It never seemed to bother the packrats on my truck and tractor, because they would nest right on top.
Cats have been useful in the past, but in a rural area, sometimes it's difficult keeping them around.

the local Tractor Supply had green Rat blocks. I put them every few feet around the 10x12 storage locker where I park the spyders. If one looks knawed on I drop another.

I'm reluctant to use poisons because I have dogs and goats. Dogs are in a fenced yard, but I would rather not take a chance.

Make small meeces houses out of 1/8" plywood to put the poison in for the meeses. or put the poison up high where the dang dogs can't reach it, the meeces will find it. We have a cat that loves to kill anything that's smaller than him and he's real good at it, but his fee is sleeping on the seat of Spydie.

Couple of thoughts; Make sure there is no food supply in the same building/area. Things like bird seed, corn for the squirrels, etc. Anything that looks like a Free Buffet. Consider getting a cat, they're great hunters and a small tray of cat food and an old blanket next to your Spyder should fix the problem. Good Luck!

I just had this happen to my atv a few years ago. Can't guarantee this will work for you, but I haven't had problems since I used this. Best part it is safe for pets if you have them and you can spray this anywhere - I actually spray it in the firewall of my cars and atv and made a circle around my Spyder when I store them.

Lots of good ideas here. I agree with the food thing. The critters are usually looking for a free snack, and if you can eliminate the odors of any food, you're ahead of the game. Certainly they look for warm dry places to nest too. For that I like to use moth balls, and bounce dryer sheets. I'm fortunate enough to have space in the garage, so that makes life much easier. Something else that helps, is a simple night light in the area. The critters sense that if a light is on, then someone or something is likely around....a simple nightlight underneath the Spyder might help too...

A point to ponder. The problem with poison is that the mice don't have the good sense to die on the spot and usually go someplace to die. Owls and other predators & scavengers have been known to die from eating poisoned rodents. Live owls are our friends killing lots of these pests. Dead owls just stink up the place.

I have seen mouse nests in many RTs but never in any other model Spyder, is that a coincidence or do mice just prefer the luxury of the RT? How about steel wool? It worked, sort of, when I had mice in IL.
