    Default I Am All Edumecated

I have been riding my Spyder for over 8 years, with most of that in California where an Endorsement is not required. I have now moved the Spyder to Arizona which requires an Endorsement.

I decided to take the two day MSF Class. They used Rykers for the training. 4 hours in Class and a written test. 8 hours on the range followed by a riding test. Learned a lot, and made some new friends

I have a Ryker Rally at home. They provided 600s, which I thought were pretty good.

I FINALLY, after 3 years, talked my wife into taking the class last spring. Halfway through the first day she called me at lunch break and said "I'm buying a Ryker"...LOL.. She liked the class and has told me many times that she's glad I made her take the class. Now, she rides her Ryker 900 and loves it. That's weird that CA doesn't require the license..? Silly of me to assume that all state do I suppose. I've never taken the class myself....I just don't know that I'd benefit from it, and I'd get bored I think....

Congratulations on the edumecation! Well done, and I think your photo (avatar?) is great. It reminds me of a distinguished father introducing his hooligan son!

Endorsements are not required in CA, NV or SC, all other states have a license requirement for Spyders and Rykers.

We have one RT, one F3 and 4 Rykers at our school, people will start out on a Ryker and like it until they switch to a Spyder then they don’t want to go back to the Ryker. It’s a workout making slow turns on the Ryker compared to a Spyder and they get tired out.

    Interesting comment about steering effort.

My wife got her moto license a few years ago, but self admits prefers being a passenger.

Her moto license instructor, at the time was also a Gold Wing Road Rider instructor. When they offered the GWRR trike course, he asked my wife if she wanted to attend. She did attend.

Knowing there would be primarily slower speeds used in the riding drills, I added a few extra psi to the front tires.

The first drill set was very slow speed. My wife did fine but was still tired from the effort needed. The other woman were on Honda Gold Wing trikes, and at slow speeds the single front wheel was effortless for them. I explained to my wife, with the second set of drills and those after that, the speed is slightly faster and the Spyder steering will lighten up regarding effort needed.

For the remainder of the riding drills, she had a blast. The Spyder carved the course with ease and being able to see the Spyders width in front of you, kept her from hitting the orange cones. With the increased speeds, the woman on the Gold Wing trikes struggled as the rear tires flattened orange cones, and the added effort of clutching, shifting and using the front brake wore them out.

In Washington you need an endorsement for a 3-wheeled vehicle. I think for most, the big benefit, other then the safety information you gain, is the fact the written and skill test is conducted as part of the class. Pass those and you get a certificate you can take to your DOL/DMV and only have pay for the endorsement to be added to your license. As far as I know, in Washington, DOL/DMV no longer perform skill tests for motorcycle endorsements, you have to take the course. I could be wrong on that point.

I just checked and Washington does require you to either go to a motorcycle safety course or a motorcycle training school in order to get your 2-3 wheeled endorsement. In Washington if you take the 3-wheeled course, your only endorsed to ride 3-wheeled vehicles or side car.

    Hi Ann,

Can you tell me if/when you will be giving classes this summer, June-July?

I've apparently annoyed some people with my multiple posts, and greatly apologize for my ignorance of how the site works.
I posted in various Discussions/Forums not knowing everybody would see all of them. Wish I could apologize to each.

And I'm not even certain I replied to you properly.
I am interested in knowing about your Spyder for sale. Couldn't find it in the For Sale forum or under your posts.

    Thanks,
    Pablo Miller pozablo@gmail.com
