    Question Another windshield question

    I have the BRP windshield for my Ryker and it is way too short, period. Someone posted that they like the Calsci windshield and doing some reading, I think that the specs fit my needs. BUT, it seems that I remember someone saying that they had to modify theirs to fit their Ryker in order to get the frunk door open. Is that true? I did a bit of searching on here but can't seem to find the conversation regarding the Calsci windshield. Sorry if I am repeating the subject again, but maybe someone could tell me from their experience with the windshield, what they had to do IF anything to make it work for them. My intent is to install a windshield that I can barely look over, so that the wind does not hit the face, and it lowers the noise level. Never did like the looks of windshields but learned early on riding two wheelers, that as you get older comfort is more important than looks. Probably why my wife has kept me around for 45 years.

    No nothing about your calsci windshield, but just replaced and installed my sport windshield with a new model windshield from Slingmods.com. It is 21 inches wide and 16 inches tall. It retails for $203.00 and free shipping. It is adjustable and misses the glove box door adequately. It is slightly tinted and I haven't drove it yet. Terrible storm out tomm. It is made by Slipstreamer Inc. Its worth checking out.

    I use the Can-Am Delux fairing and got two shields what I can change depending on the weather .. easy Job - but now I cut the higher version a little, its not soo easy to find the right one !!

    I have the CalSci windshield on my Rally model. Installation was straight forward and no modification was necessary to open or close the glovebox. I have no first hand experience with the windshields from other vendors. What prompted me to select the CalSci is that they provide a selection matrix based on rider height and leg length with several different sizes of windscreen.

    I saw that matrix on their site, BUT I am looking at being able to look slightly over the windshield in order to get the most benefit of blocking the wind. I am not sure if the matrix is for the purpose of looking thru the windshield or over it. I sent an email to them to ask. If I don't get an answer, I will call. I think that CalSci suits my purpose. My BRP windshield is worthless and does little. I'm sure the little windshield works for some, but some of us are a bit taller. The wind hits me full in the face and the noise and the buffeting is almost like not having a shield at all. I figure that I need at least four to five inches higher.

    According to their matrix the medium height matched my height and leg length; for looking over it. They were right.

    I went ahead and ordered the Large windshield from Calsci. I'm sure it's higher than the BRP one I am using right now. Thanks for all the input from the members on here. If anyone is interested, I'll post some photos of it once it arrives and I have attached it to my Rally.

    You may have to modify the bottom edge of it unless you don't mind sliding it up to access the frunk.

    I have the madstad 24”. I love it! I could have gotten a shorter one but it greatly reduces wind noise and eliminated all head buffeting - riding down the highway is actually pleasant now! I’m 5’8”. Btw. I look through the windshield and it’s not a problem

    Just ordered the Madstad 18" also 5'8". I don't like looking through windshield. Hope it's not to short.

    I had the OEM and it was to little... then had slightly tinted one from Slingmods and was to short...then had an XL CalSci and was great but saw the CanAm Deluxe fairing and got that but shield on the Deluxe fairing has a lot distortion when looking through it... for the shield itself the CalSci was by far the best to me.

    I'm new to cycling. I purchased my Rally mid July 2019. But as I understand it, windshields on motorcycles are not to be looked through, but just over. It's to carry the wind currents just up and over your helmet if set at the correct height. I may be wrong, but don't try looking through your windshield in the next downpour. Very dangerous!

    ~~~you're right about all of it. that said, I know of a few riders that have tall screens & look through it all the time. Last I heard both are still alive. that said, when &if I ever install a wind screen on my Rally Ryker, I'm going to set it up so I can look over it. Clear vision is extremely is important to me

    I received my CalSci (large) windshield yesterday and installed it this morning. I am an early riser so I had the old one removed and the new one installed by 0530am. It was very easy to install.
    OK, so to review: I am approx. 6' with a 32" inseam, so I ordered the large windshield. Sitting on the Ryker Rally with an AirHawk knockoff seat cushion, I can just see over the top edge of the windshield. Since it is still dark, I have not yet taken it out for a ride to see if I end up looking through the windshield or over it, as is my intention. I think that I will take a four foot level and run it from the top of the windshield to see where it might level to my head. I believe it will end up being even with the top of my nose, but the level should give me an idea how high it is.
    The windshield was installed easily, with no modification necessary. It is clear and I see no distortion. I like the design. The acrylic is thick and appears sturdy and strong.
    Not to be critical but to be fair in my description, I have to add that I believe that a little more attention could be given to smoothing the cut edge. It would be nice if the edges were rounded also instead of squared of by the cut. I realize that if such attention was taken and time consumed to produce, that it might add to the cost of the product. I am just making an observation. I am still very much impressed with my first look at it. I predict that it will cut down substantially in the wind buffeting and noise. From the time I ordered it on line, to the time it was delivered was fast. There was absolutely not observable damage in shipping. The windshield shipped with a microfiber polishing cloth, a small bottle of some spray solution and a tire pressure gauge.
    To sum up my first impression, I am very satisfied that I have made the right decision by ordering this CalSci windshield. And I want to thank those on here that have given their impressions and recommendation.
    After I ride a bit with this new windshield, I will add any further observations.

    I put a level across the top of the windshield and it came right to my nose. I think it will be the perfect height for looking over. This windshield is wide enough too. Looks like my BRP windshield will be for sale. I am not saying that one windshield is better than another. I am just checking off the criteria for my need on a windshield. Here's my opinion:
    1. I needed a windshield so I purchased the BRP one. I found it inadequate for my size and got beat to death in the air current.
    2. I looked at some larger and cheaper ones on Ebay and found them to be too short, too flimsy, requiring too much modification, or just not mounted sufficiently enough in my opinion.
    3. I looked at the nice looking Can Am spider fairing combo, and decided that since I live in Florida, I have no need for hand protection. Looks really nice though, Chris.
    4. I looked at the Madstad, and found it a bit pricy on my limited/fixed income, did not want to have to move it to open the frunk, but it looks real nice.
    5. I looked at Calsci based on recommendations of some happy customers on this site and found them to be more economical, sized according to specific driver size and of quality material. I also liked the sturdy mounting bracket.

    I based my decision purely on my preferences and not based on name. Although, it appears that the Calsci windshields do have a decent reputation.
    And with that, pardon me while I crank up my Rally to take a short trip to the post office. Since it is a short trip, I think I will dispense with wearing a helmet so I can see how much my hair is messed up behind my new windshield...

    I have now one, which is too High ..the other one is too low .. thats my never ending wind-shield story, so I will cut the higher one for our tours, the lower one looks better, so I will use it for show-video-clips ..

    Just to finish up my final thoughts on my Calsci windshield, I took a short ride and found the windshield to be almost perfectly sized. I am looking over the windshield, yet it has lowered the air flow to the body and to the face. It is not so low as to cause the air stream to hit me hard in the eye area, even though I can look over the shield. This way, I can wear my regular prescription glasses and not have to resort to wearing goggles over them. Florida is a helmet free state, but other than a short ride within my community, I prefer to wear a helmet. Not a full helmet, but one that protects the head without the face shield. I have not heard of any Can Am accidents, but have not searched for them either. So, I probably do not need a helmet any more than I would in a four wheel cage. These three wheelers are not easily overturned, in my opinion. But, I am still used to wearing a helmet all my life, and in other countries that I have lived in, so it feels more natural to continue to wear one. And that is for another thread, another subject. These are just my thoughts and opinions.

    I have the F4 windscreen on my Ryker. Night and day compared to the OEM one, can still access the glove box but it does interfere with the hand guard deflectors meaning you can push the handlebars all the way forward. Good coverage though, it’s great on the highway.

    Two things: It did not come with the mounting screws, luckily I was replacing the OEM windshield so I re-used the screws. Second thing, I noticed some movement of the gauge cluster after a few rides. Maybe the extra weight of the windshield is causing the console screw to loosen, or maybe it was already loose to begin with. I need to check this out in more detail.

    Expensive for Canadians after shipping and customs, but worth it.
