Default Will anything stop the clunk when put into reverse gear?

Is there always a loud clunk when going into reverse or is there a trick or procedure to prevent the clunk?

    I have a 2015 RT-s

    Thanks

It's because of the clutch design & the way it mates with the 'motorcycle' type gearbox; this combination means that they will clunk when selecting either first or reverse from neutral - in fact, if it DOESN'T clunk (at least some of the time ) you should probably consider checking the oil level & maybe getting your Spyder looked at, there's a good chance something's wearing &/or could be broken!

Running the correct weight oil at the correct level (& using the approved checking method) teamed with idling a bit longer on your initial start to warm everything up properly, especially from a cold start, will tend to lessen the loudness & the abrupt nature of the clunk juuust a little, but it certainly won't make it go away.

Really, it all comes back to being just one small part of the overall experience & the clunk is simply one of the unique features that you should learn to welcome & enjoy!

Are you referring to the clunk you get when the engine is cold or fully warmed?
Ours is a red, black and chrome 2017 F3 Limited. Bought new in 2/2019. The avatar is my first bike back in 1952, a Simplex Servi-Cycle. Photo taken at the Barber Museum.

Noticed the 'reverse clunk' on my 2020 as well, less so when warm. Pleased to read that it's normal.

It is normal. One thing I have noticed is that once I back my Spyder out of the garage, if I press and hold the shifter paddle, it does not clunk going into first.

You get the clunk in both situations. For me, it seems that the clunk is loudest on that first start up in the morning, and going into reverse while backing out of the garage.
