Default The spring in the OEM oil filter

So just did my first oil change and used a HiFLo filter. It’s of course all open. Noticed the OEM one had a spring in it. Am I suppose to reuse spring from old oil filter?

If by 'spring' you mean the wire mesh supporting the filter medium, no you don't need to do anything with it.

Hmm, it's been a few months since I changed the oil in my wife's 900, but I don't remember a "spring" anywhere.
