Default Milk or Non-dairy Coffee creamer ... OR ????

Hi folks , I'm 72 don't buy Liquid milk because I don't drink milk usually. It is perishable so it goes bad long before I would need some for cooking or even to lighten my coffee. So I now buy non-fat Powdered milk - lasts at least one year if stored properly and works well if I need some for cooking..... I always used Non-dairy creamer for coffee, but because I like my coffee on the " light " side I found I was using quite a bit …. I decided to just use my Powdered milk - DRY - not mixed with water because then it would spoil even in the frig..... well it works better than expected …. Even tho per ounce it's more expensive than the Non-dairy variety, I find I need much less to lighten my coffee …. Plus powered milk has quite a bit of Calcium …. Non-dairy of course has Zero...… Just some thoughts while waiting to ride the Spyder..... might hit 50* today & tomorrow but I can't get to it because it's heavily snowed in, in my basement ...… Mike

When I was young, meaning before age 36, I used to use cream or creamer in my coffee all the time. I had continuing problems with acid stomach and happened to read or hear somewhere that cream in coffee would cause acid stomach. I started drinking my coffee black. No more acid stomach until my late 60's when getting old started causing it.

Have you noticed Nestle's Coffee Mate can last for at least 6 months according to their expiration dates. Better yet, i don't think rum or whiskey even have an expiration date.

Prefer powdered creamer because it doesn't cool the coffee down as quickly as liquid......

    Half and Half.

Its real, it comes in pints or quarts, and it has a MUCH longer usable life due to the fat content. Usually a month or more compared to 10 to 14 days for milk. Actual cream is even longer lived.

Keep the chemicals in your fuel tank. Use real dairy.

That link wasn't open. I didn't have the status to open it?

As an aside, I did try the powdered milk and was disappointed. It doesn't dissolve well in the hot coffee, leaving floating clumps no matter how much you stir it. Best taste nod in my book goes to heavy whipping cream, but that stuff is pretty much pure saturated fat. It does have a long shelf life compared to milk products though.

We've got a PG & higher Joke Forum here that's restricted to those who 'elect' to go in at their own risk & read without complaint any/all of the PG & above jokes (potentially including R-Rated or otherwise offensive 'humour'... ) Unless you've entered your birth-date in your profile (you can then elect to not show it to all & sundry, but it hasta be in there first!) and signed in to the Joke Forum via the pop-up on entry, then that link won't work because you don't yet have the appropriate permissions to open it.

Once your birth-date is in your profile (visible to others or not) & you've elected to 'continue at your own risk' via the pop-up after being warned about the possibly offensive content, the link should work &/or you can go directly to the particular R-Rated joke. And you can chose to read on or not.....

Interesting … I don't drink very Hot coffee and the powdered milk I use dissolves fine …. quicker actually than non-dairy creamer ….. To me since I don't drink real milk I'm not getting any Calcium in my diet, and at my age 73 I need some ….. non-dairy creamer doesn't provide any nutrients that I recall ….. Mike
