Clank noise on start up

I have a 2011 Spyder RT and lately ive been getting this clank noise on start up sometimes, but never on a cold start, just after ive ridden it a while turn it off then restart, then there goes the clank, then when I try it again it starts right up. .. What does that mean? Could the starter be going bad?

I get something similar on odd occasions too. I suspect it's a question of where the pistons stopped in their stroke causing it due to higher compression when hot. It's not been a problem for me, just a curiosity.

You may just need to replace a weakening battery. I've had a similar symptom lately and then it was D.E.A.D this morning. So I changed the battery and she starts quicker and smooth as silk.

I have had mine for 10 years. Been getting that clank when starting it on and off for all 10 years.
