Default The New RT has arrived

Purchased my new 2020 today. There have been a bunch of comments made by those that have seen the new ones that there appear to be some fit and finish problems where the rear sub-assembly meets up to the back of the seat. After looking at it today and talking to my dealer it appears the base pan from which all of the rear pieces bolt to is misshapen from the factory and the bolt holes do not line up. There was a corporate meeting yesterday where this problem was discussed because many dealers are calling in about it. The pan itself was held on by zip ties because the bolt holes do not line up so somebody in the assembly line actually knew this was happening and let it go. The tech line seemed genuinely surprised and after hearing many phone calls from dealers are working on it as we speak. The pan itself causes the bolts not to lineup and is causing the gaps that everybody is seeing.

Aside from that I am absolutely in love with this machine. I will not be taking delivery for another month or so because even though we’ve had very little snow in Buffalo we still have salt on the roads for another 5 to 6 weeks. The way I fit on this machine is how I tried to adapt and change my original three RT’s to be. I tried different seats, handlebar positions, floorboards, etc. and I’m telling you that for somebody my size ( I am 6 foot two 275 pounds with long legs) I fit this machine and the handlebars and the foot position like it was designed for me. I am still not a fan of the revamped instrument cluster and I will be using my own GPS. Can’t wait for spring!

Glad they are aware, sounds like a fix is in the works. This is the gap next to the passenger grips , right? or something else?

Can I ask what dealership your way has them in stock? I might want to take a ride over and see one.

Without knowing this was an issue I saw that gap and didn't think it looked right.

Yes you are correct , it ultimately causes that gap that you see that is visible on every one of them. Does not allow the rear subassembly to come forward far enough.

WOW! Where was Quality Control or the supervisor on the assembly line???? Someone else on the assembly line should have caught it, before it got to the tech line.

I use to work in a Manufacturing plant. If I was on the assembly line I would have caught it, and also I would have mentioned to supervisor, that it was happening.

    Glad someone caught it.

Your response to noticing a problem and taking action is an example of accountability/responsibility. These are traits that I see less and less of these days. Passing this defect on down the assembly means the worker doesn't take ownership of his product.

Also, The whole spyder line assembly should take ownership of his or her product. Also have the supervisor work on the assembly line, so they know and see what is going on.

Has anyone verified that the new RT's come with the latest dash firmware version? 20.8 I believe.

Using a zip tie where a bolt should fit is not a good sign because of a gross quality control oversight, this is serious, BRP needs to get this under control pronto, and spread the word that it has been fixed.

BRP can afford bolts. Why was there zip ties on the assembly line, I know we don't know the whole story.

Typical engineering problem............ the company engineers pull the original blueprints from the files and design an updated piece of equipment without checking to see how many time the equipment has been modified since installation. It won't fit so the millwrights redesign it on the back of a matchbook cover and make it fit.

And sometimes do a better job, but apparently not in this case. I'm thinking this could end up being a real safety hazard. Kinda depends my enthusiasm for getting a 2020.

BRP needs to issue a stop sell order until new piece is available. Liability issue right there. Especially if that plastic tie breaks while riding. Tom

Default This is an Engineering Mistake not assembly line

Things can happen on the assembly line that can be truly missed until delivery.

Does anybody remember the first problem they had with the brakes in 2007.

    Spyder Roadster Brake Bulletin.jpg

On Thanksgiving day in 2007 BRP calls me up and says are coming to get my Spyder not to drive it.
Apparently the one before mine was in a minor accident and they found out there was air in the brake
line that was not properly blended on the assembly line.

A trailer came and picked mine up from my house next day and took it back to the dealership where
one of BRP's technicians came down from Canada to check out the brake system.

Another one of my Spyders they accidentally put the front tires on backwards on the assembly line.
I never realized this. The dealership never realizes only when I was in Daytona one of BRP tech came up
and asked me why I am driving with the tires on backwards.

I had a picture of it still in the crate at the dealership before they unpacked it with them on backwards.

    https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/...9394#post29394

(The pan itself was held on by zip ties because the bolt holes do not line up)

Things do happen, but when you start putting tie straps in bolt holes on something this expensive. You need to stop
the assembly line until you get this fixed before you send it to the dealership and then the customer to find.

I will definitely be present when mine is uncreated and will look for this defect before I take delivery.

Yes, indeed, thanks for posting up this information. And, thanks to your dealer for being honest and up front about it, and discussing it with you, the buyer. Too many dealers won't say a thing out of fear of angering the corporation.

This is Spyder number seven that I have purchased from this dealer . Back in 2008 I was a very early adopter and actually went out to California to ride the prototypes as a guest of BRP before they were ever shown to the public. I was there when they gave Jay Leno serial number 0001. Went through some very early teething pains with the brake issues and the DPS problem where the DPS steering module failed on both of our Spyder GS models in 500 miles Almost stopping us from being able to ride to the original homecoming in Valcourt . This dealer has stood behind every Can am / BRP I have Purchased from him . I would never ever dream of purchasing from anybody else.

    Default Question

Does anyone know if BRP did a recall on the New 2020 RT'S because of the current issue?
