    Default Trailer Harness

I installed a BRP hitch and harness and there is no power to plug. I checked the fuse and it is OK. Before I take all the stuff off, I know should of checked before putting back togather, any thing to check?

Billy Bovine is your go to guy for this stuff. Maybe he will respond and get you fixed up.

Shouldn't the lights work with the key on and not running? Did not start it yet.
Went out and started up, no difference.

Check in the right fuse box, (left as look into the frunk) and see if there's a fuse in the trailer spot. It's F4 in my Spyder. The BRP harness uses that trailer power feed for the trailer lights.

Tail lights, yes. Brake lights and turn signals should work w/o turning on the ignition. They all work on the Spyder, right? If they work on the Spyder but not on the trailer there is a problem somewhere in the harness. Check the ground circuit first.

not disagreeing with you but FYI had a harness that failed & killed R rear blinker on spyder(trailer or not), also followed to trailer blinker failure. Tail light were fine Think fault was a diode in the Y harness. Ended up replacing harness & module for aftermarket from eBay. Trailer had flat four pin & submersible LEDs complete clean wiring not bunch of splicing. So the trailer harness does tap between front & rear blinker not after.

Was that a BRP Y harness? I don't know of any diodes in it. If the terminal in the upstream connector went bad then yes, it would affect both the trailer and bike light. The Y harness plugs into the isolator so all the power to the trailer lights comes from the fuse box, not from the bike light circuit. You want an isolator because there is no fuse in the turn signal circuit between the cluster and lights. Screw up the trailer lights and you might, only might, damage the cluster.

If you are looking for a constant 12VDC at the trailer you won't find it. The 6 wires going into the control module includes a red 12Vdc, wire however only 4 wires exit this module and they are Ground, Running light, left turn and right turn.

Right. The 12 volts goes to the module and then is fed to the trailer lights by relays or diodes triggered by the bike lights power.

Wire harness is orginal BRP . All cycle and tail light turn signals work fine. Trailer harness lights have no power at all. Checked with ground to battery.

Not sure what trailer you have. Some of the RT622 need a ground wire upgrade installed.

I do not have the answer. But if the wiring is oem and good with a good ground, very possible the module has failed.

This Is how I would go about diagnosing it.

First it would be checking the 10 amp fuse for the trailer module. You say it is ok. If you checked the right fuse. It's location depends on the model year and you did not share that info.
If the fuse is good. Then unplug the Y harness. Check the trailer power wire at connector CIC1. The pin location on the connector depends on the model year. No matter the year it should be an orange wire with a violet tracer. 12V no matter if the key is on or not.
If there is constant 12V there. Plug back in the Y harness to the main. Unplug the module from the Y harness. One of the 6 wires should be constant 12V. With the key off.
If there is constant 12V there. Plug back in the module. Unplug the trailer pigtail from the module. With the brake pedal pressed down down. There should be 12V on the green and yellow wire. With the key turned on there should be 12V on the brown wire. With the test meter set to ohms. There should be continuity between the white wire and a know good ground.

My 14 RTS had the BRP factory one till some issues arrived...If I remember correctly it lost the trailer running lights also...There were several others on the forum that were having issues with their BRP ones...I ended up purchasing an aftermarket one that took the power directly from the battery and have never had a problem...larryd

yes BRP harness A69C6213-362B-4DD9-862C-12346ECE3C80.jpg CFABDC28-E9E3-4794-BF8A-06773455620A.jpg the clear heat-shrink has “DSG1” or “DS61” printed on it (value )& the bare wire visible inside has crimp creases not solder. Did ohm meter testing while back with various readings. Main thing: harness in Right rear blinker failed just the bike, Harness out worked fine. Replaced & fine bike & trailer still got old parts just ain’t figged what do with yet, got a bud may try something on his RS.
