Securing Your Spyder

Big concern here is parking SE5 semi-auto on incline and having some fool passerby step on parking brake pedal as he wonders, "What is this?"

I saw a lot of videos on how easy it is to steal bikes, even with the cable locks. I have insurance and if someone really wants the bike, they'll figure out how to take it.

I looked in old threads and have not seen this. I found that the Onguard 55x55 mm lock (2.2x2.2 in) is perfect for locking the parking brake on its third "click" making impossible for curious people to mess with the parking brake and accidentally cause the Spyder to roll (the lock do not allow the pedal to go further down to disengage). Also a little deterrent to theft.

Agreed...lo jack is really the only way to go if you're that concerned...

I am not really worried about theft as much as the thing rolling away.
It is pretty hilly here and my emergency brake really has to be stomped down to hold. And it can easily be released. But if you use the steering lock at least it will roll in a curve.
This is one good reason to have bought a SM5 then you can leave it in gear.

Scorpio alarm, steering lock and a cable lock thru the rear rim and frame. I am a little overcautious, but having just had a quad stolen out of my garage with me home, why take a chance. Even in the garage, the quad, Spyder and Busa get cabled together and the bike and Spyder alarms get turned on.
The new watchdog helps too..aka cameras everywhere.

That's a good idea but, even though I live in one of the highest crime areas in the US, theft of my Spyder is not one of my big concerns and I never use the parking brake.

I leave mine parked all day and no one bothers it. Of course the lot is patrolled by 6 cops and a German Shepherd who looks real mean but is a real sweet heart, unless the K9 officer says attack. By the way 4 of the cops ride bikes and two are thinking of getting a Spyder.

Scorpio alarm, steering lock, lojack, and sometimes cover if I'm gonna be far away. I will have to say the Scorpio is the best becasue you can put it on silent mode so no one knows its been triggered but you. I rather be notified on my keyfob then have just sirens blasting that no one will listen to anyway. However if I'm gonna be a great distance away I will put it on full sound mode. Also it's great when your at hotels, keep the key fob next to your bed and sleep peacefully, if someone messes with your bilke the keyfob will beep and vibrate, sure to wake you before anything bad happends.

There is a handle bar lock. Turn the bars completely to either side and turn the key to the right, WITHOUT pushing it down.

The lock will not work if you have a 4'' riser block!

Like you, I've probably seen & heard a thousand car alarms going off, & as you said, no one pays any attention to them.
What I have never seen is someone messing with breaking in or stealing something while an alarm is going off. If it is successful in keep what's mine, mine; I'd say it's doing a pretty good job!

I don't know if anyone has driven off with their disc lock still in place and what damage it can do but I would just lock handlebars and engage emergency brake and put full cover on it

Yup, one of the guys from out East had his stolen in Canada.

Not sure but I think someone had theirs stolen off a trailer somewhere near Maggie Valley in 2011.

I don't do anything other than take the key out and put the cover on it. The cover only goes on for overnight parking. Insurance has a $100 deductible if someone decides they want it bad enough. Someone stealing it is just not something I worry about.
