Default Painting frame control arms and swing arm

    Hello all.

I am looking for any info on what to watch for when removing the control arms, side frame bars, and swing arm for paint. I have a 15 F3S SE6 and want something other than the dark gray/black i have. The red didnt appeal to me either and neither does the new gold color.
I am familiar with taking apart 2 wheelers but this will be my 1st Spyder with custom paint.
Any suggestions are welcome but please be knowledgeable.
    Thanx in advance.

Hopefully Lamonster or someone will chime in that have actually taken these bikes apart.

And there's a guy in Hawaii that did a full frame off resto with a powdercoated swing arm. I'm sure that thread and pics is still here somewhere. Take pics along the way.

Bushings & various other parts may need replacement rather than just putting back together. Would definitely go with powder coat for longevity some places can get artistic with it with metal flake & other variations.

    Default A must....

Get a shop manual and you should have all you need to pull the parts you want to paint. Not a bad idea to check other parts while your in the area...

What i am concerned about is things shifting or moving if i take the foot rails and outer frame parts off. Also does anyone have an idea on how to support it without the suspension being intact?

I would rather paint than powder coat. Im an experienced autobody guy. And if this works out i may change it every couple years.

Thanx for the replies and i would love to see that guys build if anyone can link it.

What else should i look for? Bike is a 15 with bout 8k miles.

If you are painting, I was able to mask off most of my GL1800 and shooting it on the bike. Used a simple Dupicolor truck bed liner. If you are a body guy....

Thought about that but gotta take the control arms off anyway. And the swing arm.
Using a 3 stage paint, so i want it fully covered.
Mostly concerned about the 2 exposed frame bars on either side.
Just dont wanna have issues lining things back up.

    I appreciate the ideas.
