Default Luggage Frame Bolt Pops Loose - 15 ST Limited

So I took the left saddle bag frame off to access something underneath.

I put it back on, pushed and turned the fastener and it felt like it locked in place. Went for a ride and found it had come loose and the frame was hanging on by the other two fasteners.

Tightened it again, and it came loose again.

These are unique fasteners in that they are quarter turn type, not threaded.

Anyone have any experience with this?

    Thanks!

Make sure the bolt isn't partially turned clockwise before you twist it in. This might give you the feeling that you have it seated first when it is not. I usually turn it counterclockwise first to make sure it seats correctly, then push in hard as you turn clockwise. You should be able to see the bolt head go inwards as you push, then stop hard. They are similar to those fasteners on the engine oil tank cover that you twist on and off - not the easiest to deal with.

also just for peace of mind, I’ll remove & reattach with a different starting position each time & a double check on each sequence. Little excessive I know although I have brake LEDs mounted on the rack& cautiously trying to not pinch or yank on the wire29C1FEFA-3C43-4867-A15C-0E1C600D7AAF.jpg

I'll give this a look. The other two seated correctly and have not popped loose.
The exploded diagram shows the fastener as two parts, the bolt, and then another part that goes behind it.
Could I have lost that other part?

I have a '13 ST and have had the same problem.
1 Make sure you are using the 3 sided wrench wrench that came with it.

2 Follow the above instructions from others to seat the screws (bollts).

3 You have NOT lost a nut for the other end of the screw.

My 2015 had the same issue but on the right side.
I wound up having to slightly clearance the forward access hole in the side panel with a pair of diagonal cutters.
This allowed the side panel to flex far enough to engage the end of fastener.
The first fastener started and locked is the one that has the issue. Then the other two.
I didn't get the fastening tool so I took a grinder to a 6" socket extension and ground a triangle profile in it. Use it with a ratchet handle
With this, I can "lay into" the saddlebag frame and "persuade" it into position.
Once you get it figured out for your ryde, you'll be fine.
