Default New to spyder but concerns

Hey everyone, new member here and this is such a great forum. Picking up my 2019 f3 this Sat. My concern is all this talk about limp mode. Now this comes on when something serious with the bike or does it come on for every little thing. I'm getting concerned or dont worry and ride. Please don't ask if I have warranty, yes I do 5y but I dont want it in shop all the time. Am I looking too much into this or is it just so technical and computerized it can and will happen. If it does can I still ride it until I park? Dont want to think about this everytime I ride. Thanks all

    1. Go ride.
    2. Remember, when you get on a website, there is an overabundence of negative talk. Websites are places to vent.
    3. Can you drive in Limp Mode. Yes, but not far or fast. It is designed to get you off the road to safety.
    4. Why get into Limp Mode? There are a variety of reasons. Some are more serious than others.
    5. Go have fun. Worry when and if it does happen.

There are people in this world who get up in the morning and worry about what they're going to worry about that day. Don't be one of them. You've purchased a reliable machine that is going to give you miles of fun. Do make sure the Spyder has the latest software upgrade and go riding.

If bring it to the dealer for service, they should do that for you. If you do your own work, you will need to buy a BUDS system so you can do it.

Five Spyders, 12 years, over 150,000 miles. Have had limp mode twice. One time was my fault, I was riding the brake with a new pair of boots.

Limp mode would not be a concern up front.

I do all my own work, but take my RT to the dealer once a year to check for updates. I usually pick a decent day during the winter season when they aren't busy. They usually take it right in and the charge isn't objectionable. As far as limp mode goes I have never seen it. You tend to see posts from folks with issues which is a good thing because help is available here. You don't see a lot from all the trouble free owners out there.

I don't know if many do. I have a BUDS system because it's just what I do. I have never taken any of my vehicles back to a dealer except for work under the original warranty.

    Default Relax.....

As with any high tech system they are designed to prevent and save costly repairs or damage. There are different degrees of limp mode. Some times it will just be the screen but the Ryde continues and after the computers reset it all clears away. If it is considered more serious you will be limited to a certain speed but can continue on. Take it from someone who has had his share of bouts with the nanny but has never been left stranded...relax and enjoy the ryde...
