Default List your Top 5 accessories

    Greetings all !!

Just bought my first Spyder. She’s a 2018 RT Limited I purchased brand new at a significant savings. Took delivery of her last Thursday and let me tell you what, these things are a BLAST !!

(I got turned on to Spyders when I took a tour of Red Rock Canyon in Las Vegas in one).

Anyway, I’m just learning about mine, but I’d like to hear from you experienced RT ryders what must-have accessories you’d recommend for a newbie like me.

Looking forward to all your replies.

    Thanks in advance !!

Congrats on your new ride, Peacekeeper6.
For me, without a doubt, the Tri-Axis bars (short arms). I also really appreciate the "Magic Mirrors" by La Monster Garage.

If you have the big brake pedal, you may need to do this; https://youtu.be/tMR5DzgB3wc

I did the bigger brake pedal and also put a 1" riser under it.

My additions are Tri-Axis Bars, adjustable driver backrest, magnetic mirrors, Centramatic wheel balancers, car tires, Baja Ron front preload adjusters, Baja Ron sway bar, Misty Mountain sheepskin for the seat.

As far as what made the most difference in how the bike handles (In my order of preference)
    1. Laser Alignment (Done by a competent person). A lot of Spyders come with too little toe in, which causes the bike to wander or dart.
    2. Baja Ron sway bar. (2 up the RTL wallows)
    3. Car Tires.

Gosh, I would LOVE to get that Tri-Axis bars as well, but the price is just out of my reach.

The MM seems to be a must because many have recommended it and it has a lot of positive reviews.

    Top 5 you ask.

    Corbin seat

    Adjustable side vents

    fox front shocks

    Car tires

    F4 windscreen

Those items are related to ride enjoyment. The Sena system is good too if you need audio stuff.

Regarding Tri Axis handlebars, certainly a cool option, but honestly best for those needing to get a better fit. My height is 5’10” and the oem bars and sweep of the oem bars works very well for me.

After seeing another post mention improved lighting, pretty certain the BRP HID headlights are solidly right after the Corbin seat.

Im riding a new 2019 FSL and must say the more I ride it the more I like it. Let me start by saying I'm pretty comfortable on the bike and am trying to focus on passenger comfort. Seat and leg comfort seems to be greatly improved with the move from 2 wheels to the F3L. I pretty much reduced the wind issue with an F4 windshield. The next issue is the sideways rocking motion, think boat, as we go down the road. This rocking motion seems to be magnified for my passenger possibly due to how high she sits. Plus, I'm sure some of this is causeed by me as I get used to driving the bike which is why I just don't want to begin throwing accessories ($$$$) at these issues. Tracking going down the road seems to be good and the rocking seems to be related to road condition. Tire air pressure also seems to be correct, per the specs listed on the bike.

So, what are some of the possible solutions, if any, to help reduce this rocking motion. My goal is not to turn the bike into a Mazda Miata. I just want to smooth some of the rough edges to improve the riding experience.

    Thanks
    Poasttown

Don't spend any money on anything else until you get a Baja Ron Sway Bar, and Laser Alignment. This will improve your ryde 100%. The rest is just fluff. These two things are mandatory for the best ryde for you and your passenger.

I generally go with the rule of Safety > comfort > fun
While mine isn't an RT, I will say this is what I find is the best bang

    Baja Sway bar
    LED lights
wrap my spyder decals (the extra sheen is not only cool looking but very visible)
Comfortable seat - that gel cushion is amazing when riding 200+ miles
    2017 F3-L Intense red "Wings"
    Spyderpops Spyclops Light
Tric LED Headlights and Fog lights
    Madstad Windshield
    Phoenix - Wrap My Spyder

All the above are Mods work for how each individual enjoys their ride. Congrats on your limited and I agree the cupholder was one of the first adds to my 15 base RT.

For me it made sense to also add the 1) Bumpskid, 2) Alignment 3)Spyder cuff (for drink holder/ 4) GPS, 5) Spyder Accessory boards, 6) Lamonster LED headlights and ...

Since your Limited has floorboards and GPS capability, maybe highway pegs and car tires when your Kendas wear out-- Let your riding tell you what you need, no hurry, you've got a great ride.

I got the Tri-axis and adjustable in the bike deal at a fair discount. They put the OEM backrest on, so I can't make any recommendations other than make sure it's an adjustable one. Some folks have complained that the earlier model non-adjustable backrest pushes them too far forward.

    Thumbs up Go Army

    Good Day Sir,

    Mine are:

    Bump skid plate
    Missing belt guard
    Magic Mirrors
    High Mount third brake light
ECM Flash----- you'll really like this one.

But you'll need the anti-sway bar and maybe a proper wheel alignment. Mine was NOT good from the dealer.

Now that this's out of the way-----
I'm in Reno also and I'll guess that you bought your bike at Michaels Power Sports on So Virginia St. We are slowly but surely forming " Battleborn Spyders" so stay in touch.

Welcome to the forum PeaceKeeper6. on the new 2018 RTL. I have an older RTL and have added chrome floorboards, Handlebar cover, Blue tooth, Flag poles and Wrap. I like you just enjoy the ride and do as much as I can.

There are others, but these are the top 5 on our 2018 RTL, more additions to come as finances allow.

    1. RAM balls on a Lamonster Garage Spyder cuff and DIY handlebar bolt mount for GPS, phone mount, cup holder, etc.
Pics here, in post #4 https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/...15#post1442415

    2. Direct to battery (bypass Canbus and Nanny) 6 connection Power block -
    https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/...37#post1402237

    3. Diamond Custom seat (had them on the last 3 bikes) that I modified the passenger backrest to better fit the Admiral (I am the Captain and have authority when underway, but the Admiral tells the Captain where to go)
    Pics, scroll to post #8 - https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/...72#post1469372

    4. Spyderpops LED bumpskid with remote control to change pattern of lights. (Daytime set to cycle from 25% to 100% brightness like the modulating headlights on bikes, steady on 25% at night)
    Video, scroll to post 31 - https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/...95#post1435695

    5. Spyderflap.com rear mudflap. I really does help keep the back end and passenger drier when the roads are wet.
    https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/...d-and-thougnts

Planned - Belt idler pulley/tensioner, Spyderpops rear LED light kit, Magic Mirrors, Baja Ron sway bar, passenger armrests (most likely Diamond R)

Thanks for ALL your responses so far !! It has been educational, and I'm trying to find some mods that has BOTH value and effectiveness (with regards to safety and rideablitiy).

That said, the Laser Alignment seems to be quite popular. Two questions: (1) where can I have this done, and (2) about how much will it hurt my wallet ??

Well, three questions. What is the 6 connection Power Block ?? Is that something that prevents error codes should I add lights and other electrical accessories ??

Ok dammit, FOUR questions. My dealer HIGHLY suggested the bump skid. I'd like to get the lighted one, but am afraid if I tap into a power wire, I'd get those error codes. Will I need to buy this Power Block (or something else similar to it) or can I just tap into a wire that is suggested by the directions. Also, are the bump skids pre-drilled ??

Well, that's five questions, but who the heck is counting, LOL.

    Lew (great STRONG name, btw),

I bought mine at Elk Grover Power Sports in (where else ??) Elk Grove, CA. Their inventory was a lot larger and their prices were quite a bit lower. Plus, their whole staff is just AWESOME. Check out my Yelp review written by Lou B. (hence my comment about your name).

The power block connects directly to the battery and is controlled by a solenoid energized by a connection in your frunk behind a rubber plug in back of the zip out frunk liner. You don't have to take out the liner, just unzip it and pull the liner forward. I use it to power a cigarette type power outlet on the Spyder Cuff that you can see behind a RAM ball and a 2 port USB rocker switch outlet just below the RAM mount between the bars in the picture. It also powers 2 coax 12 volt outlets for heated jacket liners. On past bikes I've powered extra aftermarket lights.

As for the lighted bumpskid, I got that at Lamonster's Garage, though it is a Spyderpops product. (They sell quite a bit of each other's inventory) You can get the bumpskid through either one, and I got the remote control for the bumpskid lights from Spyderpops on their website. It is a "plug and play" item, set up to not upset the Nanny and uses the Can Am style electrical connectors. The bumpskid replaces the stock skidplate, which I used for the Admiral's backrest, and uses the existing holes, plus a few you drill yourself. I ran the front wheels up on car ramps and did the install in about an hour, including running and securing wires, deciding to change the routing of wires and a restroom break.

    Top 5 accessories are;

1- two roll around tool boxes and an old upright deep freezer full of every tool imaginable for working on motorcycles, truck, tractors, and whatever else breaks down

2- a two bay drive in shop with one bay having ramps and jacks and the other bay having an overhead, swinging, 2 ton hoist....... and pages of bookmarked parts places, phone numbers, and salvage places ........

3- Manuals for every bike I ever owned going back to the early 60s Japasukis all the way down to digital PDF manuals for the latest models. Got paper copies and PDF copies of many of the bike manuals I owned in the 90s up to about 2018.

4- Torque wrenches in every size from 1/4 inch up to 1 inch.

5- Shelves full of specialty tools that I either traded for, did work for somebody else to get, or built myself to do many of the jobs that require them on various brands of motorcycles.
