Default Could I be the 1st? CVT Belt Replacement

Just had a warning light come on that is a "!". Then across the screen scrolled, Transmission Maintenance Required. Yep, Apparently time for a new CVT belt. Fortunately, I have one at home as well as the required tools. Good project for some evening this week.

Incidentally, I have 11,000 miles on my Rally.

Is that an item to be replaced at or near 11,000 miles according to the manual?

What all is involved in changing that, I love to do all my own maintenance and save a few hundred dollars.

Actually changing the belt is a piece of cake, 5 minute job. Getting to the belt will be more time consuming. The seat mount needs to be raised, a bit of a job from what the youtube videos show. The clutch cover needs to be removed...... Just a bunch of bolts...easy enough.

I will be doing fuel filter and spark plugs at the same time as CVT belt replacement. Sounds like an interesting morning.

Remove the frunk to access the plugs. Not sure where the fuel filter is?

The fuel filter is actually in the tank. It's part of the fuel pump assembly. It is actually a fuel pump prefilter.

    Default CVT belt replacement

As I mentioned on another post, I received a transmission service warning flashing across my screen. I have 11000 miles on my Rally. I changed the belt this evening. My original belt looked amazingly good. No signs of excessive wear. Still within service limits of 1.44".

So, my conclusion is that when that warning light goes off, no need to get too worried or in too much of a hurry as your belt probly has hundreds if not the couple of 1000 more miles on it.

    My 2 cents..

I wonder if it is simply a mileage trigger and not necessarily a true wear indicator. Is there a Reset Process for the warning/service notification?

It took about 2 hours and I still have to put all the plastic back on tomorrow night.

Yeah, takes a while to dig down to the clutch area. I tried to find the youtube video that talks about raising the the seat frame, gas tank, etc area (that whole area lifts up to access the clutch area) but I couldn't find it. I assume that's the biggest PITA with the belt change? That and removing 30 screws that hold the plastic housing cover on.

You're right. Getting the plastic off is the biggest issue and raising the tank area.

After changing the belt, do you also need to reset the warning light? If so, how?

I'm assuming I will have to go to the dealer to have them clear the warning with DUBS. Other ideas?

12,000 miles is the recommended interval.

I am curious if the pulley can be moved with just a bolt of if you need the BMP tool. The only videos I can find are for different BRP models. Also a manual I bought on ebay says the belt width can not exceed 36.7 mm or have cracks etc. I wonder if the code could be cleared by disconnecting the battery?

The clutch on the snowmobile that uses this same engine is just opened up with a bolt.

Stopped in at dealer this morning and they said the only way to remove the warning light is to hook it up to the propriety Can-Am software in the shop..

For what it's worth, with the new belt I am not getting any clunking. Life is good.
