    Default Florida in February

Wifey and I are planning another late winter trip to family in Florida this coming year. We just have a small Chevy with a 4 banger and I just don't trust it trailering the RT from Illinois and back. (getting to old to ryde it there and back) So, I thought I'd inquire with members if there were any dealers in Daytona area that would have Spyder rentals? We have family there and in Palm Coast that we could ryde with and would be great fun to do. In the mean time, I'll keep sourcing the web. Thanks for any help.

Some that I found were $250/day and up. For that money you may be better off to rent a tow vehicle there and bring your own bike.

Renting a van or pickup from Uhaul for the 2500 miles from Illinois and back calculated from their website starts at $1100. And their website will only show for up to 5 days and I would need closer to 20 days. Guessing that this is going to an expensive option. I'll do some more inquiring though.

Check further if you plan to tow something. Last year I needed to find a tow vehicle to retrieve my 2015 F3 that was stuck in limp home mode coming back from Spyderfest. Then Enterprise only allow 3/4 ton or greater for towing, and only 125 miles was included. So to rent for two days and 1000 total miles was going to cost around $1000.

I found a rental trailer here at Tractor Supply. It is aluminum, 5'9" X 10'. Fit the RT like a glove. Cost $25.00 per day. It can't weigh more than 6-700#s. With Spyder loaded it would certainly be less than 2,000#s. There are not many vehicles that are incapable of towing that weight if driven reasonably. I have a friend who towed his off road Polaris SxS with a Pontiac Vibe with no issues. He just slowed down a little going up mountain hills. Just a thought..... Jim

My front wheel drive is only towing rated for a 1000#. I just don't feel comfortable pulling that weight with it that far. Realistically, would maybe only ryde the Spyder 3 or 4 days at the most.

A bit far to come, I know in the past there was a company here in West Palm Beach that rented motorcycles, Spyders and possibly Slingshots. The owner contacted me a while back, we spoke, but never rented from them or dealt with them.

Central Florida Powersports always has many Spyders at their facility, maybe call and check with them?

That is the company in West Palm Beach. Easy access down I95, but a few hours to get there from Palm Coast.

Seminole Power Sports has shops in Sanford and Tavares, each perhaps an hour's ride from Daytona. They sell and service Spyders along with other makes. Here's a toll free # - 1 800-843-5118; you could ask about rental possibilities.

Yeah, just went back and read the requirements. You are right. They do allow Harley Davidson 3 wheelers. That makes no sense at all. The Can Am would not take up any more space than a Tri-Glide.

Luckily I have time to explore all my options. Just seems a shame not ride while in warm Feb weather.

I think it's the ground clearance of 5" that Amtrak requires, there is a number you can call to inquire:

For small trailers, jet-skis, trikes (three-wheeled vehicles), sidecars, choppers, etc. call 1-877-SKIP-I-95 (1-877-754-7495).

It looks like they only run from the Washington DC area to Florida not including Illinois.

"Begin your search for a curated Turo host and preferred Can-Am On-Road vehicle by selecting a state.

*The program is currently only available in the states of California, Nevada, and South Carolina."

Good suggestion, but not including Florida yet. Joey in Myrtle Beach is 7 hours from the Palm Coast/Daytona area. And the price is right at $70 for a RT. As my dad said, "Close but no cigar"
