    Default Engine corrosion removal

    Hi guys!
I have been laid up for a year now due to having 2 back surgeries.
During that time, the spyder was outside and covered with a heavy tarp.
Upon removal of the tarp, I discovered that my engine has corrosion!
I guess condensate was trapped and caused this.
What can I do to remove this white powdery stuff and clean the engine?20190831_184355.jpg

Well, before I worried about the corrosion, I would get the old oil out of there. Then spin the engine over several times with the throttle all the way open. It won't start that way and it will allow the oil pump to put fresh oil thru the system, esp the top end. THEN I would go to the car wash, spray the engine down with GUNK cleaner and spray it off. Don't pull the trigger on the wand and you will only get low pressure so no danger of getting where you don't want it. Good luck. Oh put in some fresh gas too.

good morning Holly ! was wondering how you were coming along on the family project ( ) ... I did notice the corrosive look on the aluminum engine , from the photo you sent ,
: How to Clean Aluminum Corrosion :

1.Use a cloth with a mild cleaning agent, such as soap and water,...
2.Place an aluminum brightener compound onto another cloth and rub it into...
3.Place metal polish on another cloth.
4.Rub the cloth with the metal polish in a circular motion over the aluminum.

did a quick search , found the above idea ( 1 way to do it I suppose )

with these other products , there might be a chance of doing damage to plastics , and wiring ( I worked in a boat repair shop down in texas , used the marine grade pontoon log cleaner , this stuff brought aluminum back to new ! but it is highly strong stuff , pretty nasty , in smell and the strength of this product , maybe a small portion on a wire brush , " pour a little bit in bucket , with water --- 1 part cleaner 4 parts water --- and scrub a little at a time ...

Scotchbrite wheel on a drill, time and elbow grease is what it will take to get it looking good.

I had good luck using a wheel cleaning product from Autozone. Can't remember the brand, but the ones there are fairly similar. Look for the one that specifically says does not damage paint or plastics, that's the one I used. Spray on, let set, rinse off. Not perfect, but gets rid of the white fungus.

As a side not, never use Purple Power to clean aluminum. It's so corrosive it makes the white fungus. I ruined a polish job with that stuff. Cleans great, corrodes aluminum. Simple Green for me.
