Nothing says you can't run it in the summer months but, imo, you really don't need to.

With a little research you can access details on any oils test proven heat limits.

This what I do …. 4 Qt. 5w-40 , 1 Qt. 20w-50 …… Full Synthetic Rotella T6 … I feel this helps hold the viscosity stable until my next oil change …..jmho …. Mike

I used 20 50 in my HD all the time but in the spyder 998 I thought about the 20-50 but decided to go with the 10-40 4T Mobil 1 synthetic. With the Spider I like to ride into the first part of December, so it tends to start getting a little to cold in November for the 20-50. Now I do have the SE5 so I want to make sure the clutch got plenty of lubrication. My opinion and what I use being close to the same area as you. If you have doubts use the BRP kit. Or even better get a kit from Bajaron. Good luck with your oil change.

As I stated above, I only use the 20w-50 ( and it's full syn ) in an 18 % mix ….. It doesn't matter if it's the twin …. as long as you use Non - SM rated oil ….. Mike

Been using 20-50 in all my bikes for years, but I am in Florida where it can be 80 degrees in December and January. Not much cold weather and then only for short time.

Comes up from time to time and as a rule of thumb if you are in a warmer climate 20/50w works fine. Now if you are fine with changing back and forth as you do have cold weather as well then do the 5/40w or if you rather not change by seasons do the 10/40w all year. If you run the 20/50w all year and it gets cold then let the engine warm up a bit longer....

This is true, but not many ride when the temperature is below 35 or 40 degrees. Most people in the colder climates put the bikes away in winter.

Average ambient air temperature is still a consideration even with water cooled engines.

Also a consideration is how the engine is being used........... for towing, heavy hauling, etc. Not so much of a consideration for a Spyder, except maybe the towing, but it is a consideration for trucks, cars, some other vehicles.
