998 se5 rt
I do my own oil changes and have changed the oil several times on the Spyder RT. I am tired of getting the oil all over the engine when I take the upper filter off. Anybody have any suggestions on the 998 V Twin se5

After everything is completed I give the HCM and bottom frame area a light, strategically aimed spray of engine degreaser, like Gunk, etc. Keeping it off electrical stuff. Then a good rinse. Never had a problem.

I do almost the same as Snowbelt. I spray the excess oil with brake cleaner.

Thank you for the suggestions, I am already doing those things. I was hoping someone had come up with a way to avoid that. Oh well.

I have not yet changed my Spyder oil. The mechanic at my local dealership talked me through the procedure and I remember him saying that I should elevate the front ( I think left) to prevent oil spilling when removing filter. Remember that I have not yet done this, but It might help to put a rag under to catch the oil. Also I have often in the past ( on motorcycles ) made a tray out of aluminum foil to catch or divert drain oil.

12tree that is as good an idea as any. This time I did drain all the oil before taking the filters out and that did save a lot of mess. Thanks a lot for your response. Good luck with your first. Take your time and be patient and all will go well.
