Intercoms
I'm looking for a new set of motorcycle intercoms that will work between bikes. We currently have the Sena smh10 but one of them has crapped out. I was looking at getting some new Sena's but the price is ridiculous. I hated the cardos when we had those, so they are totally out of the question as well.
What I'm looking for is something that's really good but not name brand and something that is waterproof as well.
What are you guys using?

Why not call Motorcycle Dave and ask for his prices/recommendations.
Artillery lends dignity to what would
otherwise be a vulgar brawl.

I just bought the Sena SMH10 and my wifes mic always has this crackle noise... Its super anoying. I thought it may be due to wind, so I glued another piece of foam over the mic area... No joy. Not impressed witht the overall quality so far.

Bscrive, I'm curious what model Cardo you had, and what you didn't like about them. I've had a pair of the Cardo Freedom 4's for a couple months now. There is a definite learning curve with them. At first I was disappointed with the 30 second timeout of the intercom during inactivity. However, I learned that we were using them in "push-to-talk" mode, and when I switched to voice operated (vox) mode that cured the problem. The users manual leaves a lot to be desired. I have found the range and battery life to be excellent. also the pairing with Bluetooth devices such as phones and GPS's as well as audio devices are nice features. They even have built in FM radios, which I have not tried, since I have XM radio on the Spyder. Also they are promoted as waterproof not just water resistant as are the Senas.

The new Sena 30k has Bluetooth Mesh technology and is so simple to turn on. They also have a device that any Sena headset can pair to so they can also Mesh with the 30k's and others with the the same device.

Sometimes a crackle sound can come if the boom if rubbing against the helmet or lips... needs to be placed clear of touching things. That might be what's happening. Just a thought.

The unit you describe is 10+ years old and has been discontinued, when they came out they were
the GOLD standard of the day.

Brian, Val & I are still using our SMH10's for intercom that we got in 2013 when we bought the Great White Whale. They still hold a charge and the batteries can be changed. Now, granted, we are on the same bike, not like you and Deb who ride separate bikes. As Dave says, this is old tech, but for us, it still works.
