    Default front tires

I need to replace the front tires on the old RT, I was talking to a few tire guys and they asked " because of the configuration of the spyders why can't you just use conventional tires on the front instead of motorcycle ones? I did not have an answer other than that is what came with it. Dose anyone know of a compelling reason why we can not use non-motorcycle tires on the RT?

A bunch of threads on here support the use of car tires. Mr. Blueknight911, Mr. Peter AAwen, Ms Spyderanne01, Mr. JCthorne and a bunch of others are all excellent reading. I personally use the Vredstein Quatrac 175/55R15 front and Vredstein 205/60R15 rear combination, but there are a few very good choices. Do an advanced search with the names and put tire in the query. Should keep you busy for a couple of days, weeks, or months, depending how much you want to know.

Many people here use car tires. If you want a recommendation we need to know the year of your RT.

Spyders use car tires. The Kendas that come on them are very poorly made car tires. I know.......they say "for special motorcycle use only" on the sidewalls. The reason for that is the load carrying capacity of the Kendas is so low that ANY vehicle other than a Spyder would be over the limit of them. I recently had Vedestrein Quatrac5 tires put on the front and I am still blown away by the improvement in ride and handling.
On the road again...........and forever young!

…. be very, very careful of who you get Spyder info from ….. A lot of folks really think they are helping …. however bad info can KILL you …. Vredestein Quatrc 5 comes in 14 inch sizes also ….. I highly recommend them ….. Mike

I see you are from Windsor, is that Windsor Ontario. I changed two 2012 RTs over to Hankook car tires, purchased from Canadian tire, They have been working great on fronts.

If they are available to you. Many here have used Bridgestone Potenzas in the stock size.

About 32K miles back I installed a pair of 175/55R15 Continental ContiProcontact tires. I am now down to 9/32nds. Time to replace??? The measuring device shows 6/32nds as replace time.

    Default Good info above....

Spyder ryders have been using car tires for some time now. It all started with the rear tire and the apparent short life of the OEM Kendas. The fronts faired much better but later on many changed them to car tires as well. There were problems getting car tires in the recommend sizes and some would not sell them to you if you mentioned what you were putting them on. There is now a long list of tires folks have tried. I myself have had good results with the Kendas and continue to use them. You can search here for the many brands and sizes being used....

Are the Vredestein tires on your stock rims or did you mod them?

did the older RT have 14" tires? My 2015 has 15" tires. I bought 2 Federal Forneza AZ01 from Walmart on-line for $56.xx each delivered to my local store for free. I took them to my favorite tire store in town and then went home to get the Spyder and they mounted and spin balanced them for cheap. They're soooo much better handling in the twisties, like they're glued to the road. Great in the rain and torrential downpours. I highly recommend them.

Yes the 2010-2012 had 14 inch tires. They changed in 2013 and have been 15" since then.

When I had my 08 with the 14" rims I switched to General Altimax tires in front and was very happy with them. I don't know if they're still in production or not since it's an antiquated and odd size tire.
