I wonder how well that will go with his medication? Oh, you probably meant water.

Thinks out loud
Looks like you're sporting some titanium and a few screws, 6 to be exact.
You know we heal slower at our age. You might want to google it. Only suggest it because I cared for my Mother after a femur spiral fracture which caused me to do a lot of research.
You seem to have a good attitude about what happened and that'll help A LOT.
Hang tough Dave

Slow doesn't apply to only old people. About 30 years ago, when I was about 45, I dumped my Kawasaki 440 and suffered a crush break to my right little finger. A few weeks later a guy asked me, as I going into church, "How you doing?" I responded, "My finger hurts today." His answer, "It'll stop hurting in about one year!" You know, it was a year before the last of the occasional twinges of pain stopped.

Internal swelling can last up to a year, causing pain. Most people relate to the swelling that you can see, like in Dave's picture of his foot.
Dave,
Just out of curiosity, did the dr. mention anything about bone density?

Broke the top of my tibia and my ankle a year ago after being cut off in Deadwood and going down. The Harley Ultra that fell on them, was a bit stronger than my left leg/ankle. That was the story of what I did with my summer vacation (and beyond). Be patient. Do the rehab. It gets better, but we do heal slower than we did as youngsters (even though our minds are still youngster minds). One year out and still improving... and can really make the TSA's stuff beep now with plates and screws for them to find. Heal well, Dave.

I don't remember if he did or not, I record any doctor visits so I have a record of what was said
incase I am unable to remember everything.

I thought of doing the same thing. But, I take my gf with me in hopes of her remembering something I missed or forgot. I do like your idea better.
