Default Hot 2015 RT will not start.

    Hi All,
Have any of you had this problem? After a long ride on a very hot day, you stop for a break, 20 minutes or so and you go back to you bike and turn it on but can’t get past the “read the card screen” . Computer will not get to start screen.

Bike engine temp is normal, but the temp on the screen reads 107 degrees.

The bike was in the sun on asphalt. It’s happened only 4 times in 3 years on very hot days, 95 plus days.

I push it into the shade, keep going back and try to initialize and finally it does and starts. No limp mode, no error codes. Dealer says no codes in computer and Canam says they never heard of the issue....really?

The longest I had to wait is 20 minutes to get it restarted but $30k bike that occasionally doesn’t start is concerning.

Have you heard of any fixes?

Does the computer have a temp start shut down?

    Thanks for your input!

    Ride Safe

I wonder if a person wanted to put like a aux fan under the Tupperware if that would help keep her cool on hot days!! I have some friends that do it on there two wheeler, put it on a switch where you can turn it on or off when you need it! I also think I've heard one of the guys on here that has one on there GS. Good Luck, hope some one can help you more than I have!

I have heard of the screen going black if left in bright sunshine …. but it did start ….. Unless a Code is active ( and yours wasn't - it started ). … The dealer Tech should have been able to retrieve the info from the computer using BUDS …. I knew people who did Computer Forensics ( for a living ) and they said … anything that is logged into a computer stays there, unless the board is physically destroyed or removed by a Professional ie. Bleach Bit…. I would check your Battery terminals to make sure they are tight - I always use Star washers on my Batt. terminals, they never loosen …. Mike ……..

Also BUDS has no record of the failure.

I think maybe the left handlebar switch cluster has some internal issue where an electrical connection separates, or whatever, when the cluster gets hot. The Mode button then doesn't send the signal to the other computers. If it happens again try pouring ice water on the switch to cool it down. To test this theory try warming the cluster with a hair dryer and see if the problem occurs.

Do you all think a bike cover would help or just keep the heat in????

The work around I’ve done is when I stop for fuel, or a drink, or just to look around I shut the engine off with the kill switch and leave the computer on. Turn the kill switch on and start and go. Don’t want to get stuck taking a leak!

My 2914 RT started doing that. Turned out to be the battery going bad. After new battery (I purchased a dry battery from my dealer and then activated/charged it the correct way) no more problems.

    Default Interesting....🤔

If it is a hot day and as you said you left it parked on the asphalt the temp in the engine compartment will increase dramatically. Hot engine and the heat eminating from the asphalt (can be upto 170 around here) can cause a high intake heat issue. Though that does have codes. You can check battery connections though usually fail more when cooling down but battery starting to go could be. When you say will not start.... does that mean you cant get past the press mode screen and nothing happens. Or it does not crank or does not fire up ?

That works great but don't try it for excessively long periods... I'd say 20 minutes max. I used to do that to stop and play music while resting in the shade with a drink, and one time I pulled the battery down too much and had to flag down someone with jumper cables.

I still do that, but I've learned to switch into accessory mode for the music, without using the kill switch. However, this still requires using the mode switch during reboot, so accessory mode would not address your problem.

First I've heard of your problem. When refueling I always leave ignition switch on, use the kill switch when stopping and restarting, and move to a parking place and shut the whole thing off if I am taking a longer break.
