Default F3 oil change for less than $50

After recovering from the shock of seeing the price of an oil change kit on Amazon for $101, I did some research and this is what I came up with.

Since the consensus seems to be to go with Rotella T6, this is what I am going with.

    Walmart - 6 gallons for $116.29 - $125 with sales tax.

Ebay - HF556 oil filters - if you buy 4, $63.60 with shipping.

These items will give you 4 oil changes, with 2 quarts left over. For the 5th oil change, just buy 1 gallon of Rotella for a little over $20, and another filter.

    For the 4 changes, it works out to $47.15 per change. ($125 + $63.60 = $188.60/4 = $47.15)

The 5th oil change will be less than $40, since you have already paid for 2 quarts of oil!

Seems like ANYTHING for the Can Ams are dearly priced!

Don't forget to add in the o'rings and washers.
Just had an eye opening experience at my local dealer. Carried my 19 RTL in for it's first service and after waiting a week decided to pick it up and do it myself. Got the oil, filter and o'rings from them. Drained the oil and removed the filter. cleaned everything up and started to reassemble only to find the only o'ring I had was the large one for the oil filter top.
Retraced my steps all the way to the dealer thinking I dropped them or left the on the counter. Nope. They don't stock them. When they change oil they just reuse the old ones. Would I like for them to order them? Nope, that is what the internet is for from now on.

You can save even more by purchasing your oil filters from BajaRon as he includes all the O-rings and washers needed with the oil filter. I use his Hiflow ones at under $14 per each (4 sets for $49) as well as the T6 oil that I purchased at Walmart and with the rebate it came out to less than $4 per quart.
So mine are at less than $38 per change.

Mine averages around $65 - $70 per oil change, but I have bought bulk packs of the sealing washers, o-rings, and filters. I order the 6 or 12 packs of the oil I use from Amazon any time I notice it is a few dollars less than it usually is, Got enough on the shelf for the next 3 or 4 oil changes now.

The cost of an oil change is not even something that is on the radar after you pay $20 to $30 grand for a bike.

I buy my filter kits from BajaRon, all the washers and O rings are there. As the washers are not crush washers but simple copper ones, if not damaged you can re use them. But they are so cheap why not? I have enough oil on hand of the 3 brands I use to do 14 oil changes. 4500 miles/change that means I'll have 116000 miles on the Happy Dragon before I run out of oil. That should get me thru the next 5 years.

But saving $200 to $300 buy DYI, goes toward offsetting that initial expense.

I wouldn't be concerned about the old washers ….. I've done 10 oil changes ( 1330 ) with the same washers ….with no leaks …..Mike

I buy 1 oil change at a time. I have a tendency not to keep the same bike very long. Bad habit I guess.

The kits should have the o-rings with them. You can buy the filters without the o-rings. You will have to read the product description to be sure. It all depends on where you get them from.

I am using some washers with neoprene or some damn thing sandwich bonded style construction over a thin metal washer. Don't even remember where I got them from. I think it was Amazon. They are the OEM drain plug washers for some metric car. I got bulk packs of about 50 or both sizes. They don't need to be tightened very tight and it is easier to loosen the drain plug using them instead of the solid metal washers.

Here it is........... I knew I wrote it down somewhere.

Rubber composite drain plug washers in many different metric sizes.

Well, guess the quality of the o'rings has improved a bunch over the years. Still can't believe they didn't even stock them.

I understand that everybody wants to save some money but you got to understand you've made a very pricey investment in an expensive motorcycle and it needs to last many years and miles. So why not treat your Spyder like a Queen and give her the best. I personally buy my filters and oil from Baja Ron and I only use Amsoil in mine. I think it is the best oil and has proven to be great from all the oil analizes I have seen. Just my 2 cents

A 50 dollar (synthetic) change is possible, but you have to be on the lookout for bargains.
The OP figured it out with Rotella, there are other options that can put you at the magic 50 dollar mark.
Recently, AutoZone closed out Castrol Power 1 for 2.00 a quart, so easily done there.
WalMart com has Valvoline Full Synthetic MC oil at 42. for 6 quarts with free shipping.
Amazon has Triax Xterra MC oil at 39.99 for 6 quarts and free shipping.
You can always go to a conventional oil and be less than 50.
Valvoline conventional MC oil, 4.57 at WM.
Mag1 semi syn MC oil at Grainger, for a little over 4. (And contrary to common thought, that's a stout oil, and shows excellent used oil analysis with minimal wear.)
From what I see, BajaRon has a really solid deal on filter and seals.

Back in early fall of last year, my local Walmart had the Quicksilver on closeout for $2.50/qt Seeing good reviews on BITOG, I bought the remaining (3) quarts.
