    Default Is this normal?

    Hello All,
We bought a 19 RTL in Phoenix orange/ Dark last Saturday and it will be deliver this week.....never rode any spyder or motorcycle on a highway before so this will be a learning curve for us. But really looking forward to the bike! The problem I'm having is every time i get on this site..... I find more to buy.
I'm sure that Lamonster Garage doesn't mind though, ordering things almost daily. So far I've ordered the following.......

    LED headlights
    led fog lights
    Bright brake light kit
    Lidlock
    Swaybar
    J&S jack
    cat delete
    Akrapovic silencer
    idler pulley kit
    oil change kit
    gold plugs
    magic mirrors
    Bumpskid

This list doesn't even cover the riding jackets, Shoei helmet, sena radios, riding gloves,BRP back rest, BRP armrest, and laser alignment that we bought at the dealer!

    Is this addiction normal????

    Take Care

I've got a GREAT wife but if I keep spending this way I could find myself single!
I just figure that I'll have pretty much everything done at once.

it may be normal for some, but not prudent. You must gift really well.
In my opinion it would be smarter to learn to ryde your new machine, and THEN go for goodies.
You do know that all the bling you throw on your spyder will not improve the resale value one bit.
In case you own it for a few thousand miles and then decide it's not for you.

    Default Oh yeah !!!

Better known as farkeling... normally starts after purchase but some get a jump on it and start before delivery... many warnings have been posted about this...👀

& the addiction term is: “Farkleitis”
(best guess spelling bee ) the main thing is so your happy with you ryde.
“Make it your own” custom paint, accessories, however within legal limits some farkles might even be transferable to your next spyder if you get one. ENJOY

Don't waste your money on BRP arm rest. They are useless. Too far back. My co-rider complain about those all the time. Get some after market, like Big Bike part. Much better and cheaper. I am replacing mine..

    EXCELLENT advice.
You don't "need" any of that stuff on your list.
Unless you paid cash for the Spyder......and can pay cash for any accessories.......you should resist the temptations for at least 3-6 months.

Some of those things listed actually aren't a good idea for someone with no previous experience with bike mods.
LED lights might actually give worse light than stock.
Muffler modifications are technically illegal and might be bad for your hearing.

    K.I.S.S. in the beginning.

Personally, I would ride your Spyder for a while and then start adding those additions that you feel will benefit you. Some of these do feel like no-brainders for me, such as the swaybar, but most of us get along just fine without magic mirrors, gold plugs and an akropovic silencer (whatever that is - I honestly have no idea).

Some of these are often worth doing when the time comes, such as replacing headlamps with LEDs when one burns out. That said, if this scale of money doesn't matter in your world, then why not go ahead and get gold everything.

Part of the fun of farkleing is to examine several different forms or brands of what you are considering, then post it on the board and expect a lively discussion the first first few times. Make sure you buy a thing or two for your wife's comfort while riding with you. If you discuss an occasional purchase with her, she might not notice that that you haven't discussed ALL purchases with her.

I agree that most purchases should wait until you have ridden a bit and seen what you need. Safety gear (helmet, clothes etc) is the exception - don't get on the bike without it.

Congrats and enjoy your Spyder. If any thing go for the safety items first i.e lights. As has been mentioned put some miles on her first and see how you feel about it before dumping a wad on farkles. K.i.s.s. certainly applies. Good luck and have fun.

For most of the world, riding anything with less than 4 wheels and a steering wheel is not normal.

Hi, new user, soon to be spyder owner. This reminds of most of the members on the snowmobiling website I've been on for years, Dootalk.com. Just ride it!

My wife says I spend too much (she was born with a Scottish kilt) on 'farkles', but I just got a 2018 RT Ltd a couple weeks ago..and I haven't added anything to it yet...nowhere NEAR the list you provided........that being said, I'd maybe suggest you ride it awhile before you invest in all the extra stuff...you may find you don't need/want some of it... especially since you apparently don't have that much road experience....I think you will find you love it...I do mine...and I've had a lot of 2 wheelers, ST1100, Marauder, Shadow among them.....the best thing is I now don't have to worry about dumping my wife off the back end, like happened twice on 2 wheelers...

    Default Proper farkeling

    Welcome------

I think it depends if your going to do your own work or not. If YES start with the easy stuff first and have the tools on hand. Magic Mirrors are a must if you are going to do your own work. Safety and good lighting should also be at the top of the list.

Be sure to buy a farkel or three for your wife!!!!! Trunk mirror, luggage liners, good comms. for example.

Just my humble opinion now---- add-on noise enhancers should be the LAST farkel you spend big bucks on .
