    Default Limp mode

I know there are multiple threads on the subject, but I don’t have time to read all of them. I was riding my 2016 RT-S a while ago. As I was cornering, at a way safe speed, my bike started beeping, the VSS light came on, the engine light started blinking, and I went into Limp mode. I was only a mile from my house. I did not try to see if I could go faster than 35 or so. I shut the bike off at home. Several minutes later I started it up and everything was clear. Is it safe to go ride or should I bring it in for a check up?

Update. I tried riding again and didn’t make it out of my neighborhood when the same thing happened again. I gues it’s a trip to the dealer. Any suggestions?

Make the limp home mode show up on the screen again. Then press mode, set and turn cancel buttons all at the same time. Tell us what codes show up on your screen.

I've had 100's of VSS codes on my three Spyders …. none ever went into LIMP mode because of that ….. Do what Billy said and get a CODE # if you can .…. Mike

    Default Interesting....🤔

I too have had several VSS warnings (check engine comes on for any warning it seems) including the limp home. In most cases once shut down with key removal then restart (I have done this while driving) the limp mode goes away but the check engine needs a computer restart which takes longer remove the key and have lunch. I have had it happen on long banked turns, emergency stops wheel hops etc. But if it comes back check for codes or have dealer hook up BUDS.

It looks like a brake pedal issue either by the rider or a mechanical brake switch

I agree with Roger. Brake light switch failure or the wiring to it.

a sticky switch has been the cause both times we've gotten the Limp Mode condition (once each on our 2 2014RTL at about 17-20k miles). The first time, my wife rode 300 miles in limp mode before we could get to the dealer, who was able to unstick the switch with brake cleaner. The second time it happened it was on my bike and I rode 100miles home, where it cleared itself with no intervention on my part.

Each time, the bike's top speed was limited to 60 or 65mph but all the systems still worked so the bike was safe to ride, just annoyingly slow.

Thanks for the information. I’m only 5 miles from my dealer, so I will drive it over Tuesday for a diagnosis

So, I brought my bike in yesterday. I get told it could be up to 2 weeks before they even look at it. They are that backed up. Frustrating! They do seem to think it may be something with the light switch, but did I mention I gotta wait 2 weeks for them to look at it? Will let you know the outcome. Thanks for the input.

    Update.

I got my bike back and you guys were right. It was the brake light switch. Got it changed and everything is fine. Would have been a $264.00 charge, but I have the extended warranty, so only $50.00. I was out this weekend, so I couldn't ride, but I will be back out this week. Thanks for the replies on the original post. There is a wealth of information here.
